While the oppression of all working people by the AKP / Palas dictatorship continues uninterrupted, the socialists are preparing for the 1st of May despite all repressions. The fascist dictatorship tries to prevent these preparations. Last Friday, 23 socialists were arrested in Istanbul-Kadikoy, who mobilized for 1st of May. The arrested were members of the ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed), HDK (Democratic People's Congress) and two journalists. They will stay at least 7 days in custody.

That the dictatorship will try by all means to prevent 1st of May preparations is not surprising. The countless thousands on the streets on the 8th of March, the international day of the labouring woman, and on Newroz made already clear that people's freedom will can not be suppressed by fascism. These days of battle create the channels for new mass struggles. The first of May will be an important expression of the anti-fascist, revolutionary struggle and will be prepared with new means against the extremely repressive conditions.

The socialists call on 1st of May street by street, house by house, factory by factory, school by school for the common struggle of the Turkish working class with the Kurdish people.
