Erdal Balcı was shot by police during a banner action at the Maltepe Esenkent overpass in November 1994. The MLKP declared the month of November as the month of martyrs to commemorate its first martyr Erdal Balcı, who symbolized the way of a struggle under fire.

In a commemoration organized at the overpass in Maltepe Esenkent comrades remembered the month of our fallen and stood for a moment of silence on the bridge, where comrade Erdal became immortal.
