Migrant Rebellion in France

For three weeks thousands of cars were set on fire, many police stations, work-places, banks and storage buildings burned down. For three weeks barricades were set in suburbs, police stations raided, clashes with police by stones and sticks, and sporadic gun attacks realised. The actions participated by hundreds, thousands and gradually ten thousands of migrants spread out to whole France.

The death of two immigrant youth who were chased by the police in transformer station (in Clichy-sous-Bois suburb of Paris) as a result of electric shock become only a cause for the explosion of a migrant rebellion. Later developments show how far the contradictions between migrants, who are a part of the French working class and toiling masses, and bourgeois order are accumulated and sharpened. This is a migrant uprising. The migrants those kept under oppression, excluded, humiliated and seen as the second-class humans in Europe's imperialist countries showed -just for now in France- how a dynamic, revolutionary potential they are bearing.

The fire lighted by migrant youth has flurried not only the French monopoly-bourgeoisie but also the monopoly-bourgeoisie of all imperialist countries where migrants live in great numbers. Imperialist countries of Europe saw that turning EU borders into a very well-protected fortress in order to prevent entrance of migrants is not the solution, but the danger of fortress to be conquered from the inside is much bigger and possible.

The cars and work-places that were burned down, the police stations that were raided and thrown petrol bombs and the barricades that were set do not carry any other sense than sharpening class contradictions and bringing to open the anger over the system. Hatred on everything that represents the state could also be harming those who are not on the side of the state during the process of this spontaneous struggle. But this is not the essence of the question. The essence of the question is disturbance of ostensible silence and demonstration of carriage for uprising. This uprising is an expression of anger over not having opportunities for education and hospitals, over unemployment, Mafia and drug trade.

The ones who feel heavily the neo-liberal attacks in France and in other imperialist countries are the migrants. They are the ones who are on the target of imperialists` "fight against international terrorism", "anti-terror" laws, racist and discriminative policies. Through regulations and implementations, imperialist bourgeoisie is fully making discriminative the daily life between "native" and migrant, and directing "native" section of society to get used to be with this. Discrimination is tried to be accustomed. So, what was expressed on 27 October was a fight against such attitudes.

Europe's imperialist bourgeoisie shows through its EU practice how wrong is the understanding of putting forward definitely the fascists in order to divide society in "native-foreigner" and to build apartheid walls based on ethnicity among the working class and toiling masses. For this, definitely there is no need for a Le Pen that we see in France. For this, there is Sarkozy in France, Schily in Germany. What is important is the state policy for turning the state into a fascist state. The EU is making nothing else than this by trying to turn its borders into a fortress, introducing regulations, deporting immigrants and etc.

The uprising of migrants is not supported by the French "left". The French "left", the ones who are calling themselves communist must ask themselves what effort they made in order to support the spontaneous struggle of the migrants. Did you throw petrol bomb together with them? Did you carry them from one place to other? Did you provide logistic support? Did you set barricades together? What did you do in order to treat wounded people or to hide ones who were searched for? Did you try to put forward the political essence of this uprising, to organise French working class and toiling masses in order to get their support?

What is understood is that the organised forces protesting the government's neo-liberal policies; the forces took side with the EU in the face of American imperialism's attack on Iraq; the forces organising the European and the World Social Forum are lost to the social chauvinism. The French Communist Party, the revisionist party did not hesitate to describe as "vandals" the ones somehow struggling for the future of France.

Let's leave aside being together with migrants, but what the organised forces -who played an important part in throwing into dustbin the EU constitution- have done in the face of re-implementation of martial law that was introduced with the purpose of repression of Algerian national liberation struggle in 1955?

More such questions could be added. But, what is important is that the migrant uprising in France, despite of all its weaknesses and spontaneous character, is a revolutionary explosion and lessons should be taken. The migrant movement in imperialist countries will exist until the existence of migrant masses. Hereafter the imperialist bourgeoisie will give more importance to isolate this movement from the social movement and to organise the "native" society against this movement. This movement must be perceived as part of the class struggle in every country where it would explode; as an element of it. Here downs great tasks on the revolutionary and communist dynamics taking part in the class struggle.
