In the beginning of November, some cities of Kurdistan like Diyarbakir, Batman, Urfa, Mardin and Van as well as some smaller towns, have been affected by the flood disaster. Due to the state just watching silently and not undertaking the necessary steps while thousands of people lost theirs homes, 42 people lost their lives. The state, which permanently attacks the Kurdish people with helicopters and tanks and supplies a big budget for the dirty war and the military operations says now, that he hasn't got helicopters if it is about the catastrophe which the Kurdish people suffers. Thus, the state committed one more bloodbath by letting the Kurdish people willfully die.
The way of proceeding of the Turkish state, which reminds of the way of proceeding during the hurricane Katrina in the USA, of letting the black people dying, was responded by the socialists. In our country, where the "natural disasters" turn into massacres, where the workers and laborers where exposed to homelessness and many privations during the earthquake of August 17, 1999 and dozens of people die every year because of landslides, earthquakes and floods, these "natural disasters" have to be considered as a part of the ruin caused by capitalism and as a part of the colonialist policy of negation and annihilation of the Turkish state and responded in a political way. In the face of the flood, the socialist forces have called upon the Turkish workers and laborers to give a helping hand to the Kurdish nation. They organized activities like exposing the colonialist fascist dictatorship and the bridge of fraternity from Turkey to Kurdistan in the face of the pain suffered.
The Kurdistan representations of the ESP have made statements in this sense and organized activities. The Turkish police attacked brutally the press meeting, where the ESP announced that they "will build groups, which will fulfill the duties set by the DTP concerning the flood", and detained all activists of the ESP. 9 of them were sent to prison.
Another Organization, which wanted to help the Kurdish people exposed to the flood, was the culture centre BEKSAV . BEKSAV, which remarked that the progressive and revolutionary part of the Turkish people are face to face with an important test and responsibility, called for a mobilization and formed a center to coordinate the help. BEKSAV started a campaign in support of the Kurdish people and sent everything their collected on November 13, with a delegation to Kurdistan. The delegation of BEKSAV, ESP, EKD , Tekstil-Sen and the newspaper Atilim spoke with authorized persons of the communities in the cities of Kurdistan like Diyarbakir, Batman and other places and with the victims of the flood and identified the needs of the people on the spot. After the delegation has finished its program their returned to Istanbul where their organized a press conference where their informed the public opinion about theirs observations.
