On September 12, 1980, the military fascist coup, which was realized by open support of the USA and other imperialists, have weighed down like a nightmare on to the entire oppressed people in order to suppress developing revolutionary struggle. Because of their political outlooks, tens of people were killed under torture and on the streets while ten thousands of them imprisoned. All revolutionary democratic institutions, parties, trade-unions, newspapers and periodicals were banned. The society was sentenced to silence as a whole. In later years, the same fascist mentality have continued itself also after the transition to so-called parliamentary system through state institutions that it has created. The state institutions such as MGK (National Security Council), RTUK (Supreme Board of Radio and Television) etc., those who today keeping Turkey and Northern Kurdistan under control in various spheres, are the works of that period.

However, the 12 September military-fascist coup have also created YOK (Higher Education Board) in order to take under control the student youth and especially the youth in higher education that has became one of the important areas of the revolutionary struggle since our geography's near history, and to bring up "educated" beneficial people for the system. So much so that the YOK has taken not only the university youth but also the lecturers in universities under its yoke by anti-democratic and outworn practices and it blocked the scientific-democratic developments under the name of the system's permanence.

Therefore, when we talk about the struggle of the university youth in our geography, the first thing that comes to our minds is the struggle against YOK and its practices. Until today, the students in higher education have implemented many methods of struggle in order to abolish the YOK. The militant and massive demonstrations and rallies organised on the foundation date of the YOK, 6 November, the alternative openings on each education season, the boycotts, the distribution of leaflets, putting posters up on the walls and petition campaigns are some of them. Here we must also note the struggle against the attacks those carried out by the prolongations of the state loyalist fascist-reactionary parties at universities on the revolutionary, democrat and patriotic students.

Today, the struggle of the youth and especially the youth in higher education in our geography shows serious growing tendency. The student youth, which started to the new education season with intense protests, later showed itself in the actions against the imperialist war and occupation. Last yearB4s 6th November demonstration, which passed much more crowded and much more militant than the one in the year of 2002, was showing the increase of this tendency. And, the ruling classes, scaring from this tendency and the struggle's unification with the struggles of other sections of the society, have started a new wave of attacks against the university youth.

MLCP's youth organisation KGO is fighting at the frontline of all of these struggles, using many methods of struggle and it is the direct organizer of some of the resistances, campaigns and widening protests.

The USA collaborator AKP government, which has started a re-construction attack also in the sphere of education to be able to carry out the undertakings that it has promised to imperialist institutions such as IMF and WB, wants to prevent the struggle given by youth against the new draft of law on YOK and the privatisation of education through imprisonment, detentions, expelling from schools and interrogations. Hundreds of communist, revolutionary and Kurdish patriot students in tens of universities of provinces such as Ankara, Istanbul, Adana, Siirt, Canakkale, Balikesir etc. have been exposed to interrogation attacks and some of them are arrested because of participating in the 6th November demonstrations, putting pos-ters on to the walls, distributing leaflets and organising "Democratic University Conference".

The reply of the youth on the interrogation attack became the increase of the resistance on militant line. The "Don't Touch My Friend Campaign" which started in many universities is followed by the "Alternative University" that created in front of the university by the Istanbul University students those who were not allowed to enter into the university. The intense interest by the representatives of scientific, artistic institutions and other organisations to the "Alternative University" have made the pro-YOK lecturers angry while riveting the commitment of the students to struggle. Again, the hunger strike started by the university students in Istanbul and Adana have received intense support from trade-unions, women organisations and various different NGOs. At the press conference that was made at the end of the hunger strike, the students have said that "Today we are ending our hunger strike at the 11th day that we started on the day of 15 January. We will continue by extending our struggle that we have been carrying out by demanding the draw back of the interrogations and penalties, the withdrawal of the gendarmerie and police from our schools, the release of detained friends of ours and the abolishment of the reactionary-repressive discipline regulations". The reply to this press conference has not been delayed and the youth of Ankara and Izmir provinces announced that they have started a hunger strike.

All these attacks are the parts of the systematic and centralised attacks of the state for prevention of the youth movement. Therefore, they can not be dealt separately than the neo-liberal attacks that realized against the workers, toilers and public servants and the attacks made on the political prisoners in F and D type prisons by the state. So, the resistance raised by the student youth must definitely be claimed by all toiler sections of the society. The workers, toilers, lecturers, intellec-tuals, trade-unionists and especially the student parents must become one part of this struggle.

MLCP, which acts with this consciousness, and its youth organisation KGO, take active part in all resistances that raised by the youth and try to carry them to all sections of the society. We believe that it will be possible to repulse the attacks against the vanguard division of the youth and to make rulers kneel down if we can benefit from the opportunities which the process will bring out.
