The Secretariat of the Middle East Anti-imperialist Struggle Coordination has made a statement on 17 September 2006 on the recent state terror against revolutionaries and communists and on the massacre of the counterguerrilla in Amed (Diyarbakir). We are publishing the statement: End to the counter-guerrilla massacres and imprisonment terror! Freedom for political prisoners! The state terror in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan geography accelerates with the arrestment and imprisonment of revolutionaries and communists, the imprisonment of anti-imperialists those who were protesting the sending of troops to Lebanon and the counter-guerrilla massacre in Diyarbakir. 23 revolutionaries and communists are detained through police raids which were carried out in different cities of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan on 8-12 September, and 20 of them -including Ibrahim Cicek, socialist journalist-writer and Chief Editor of Atilim Newspaper, Sedat Senoglu, journalist-writer and Chief Coordinator of Atilim Newspaper, Bayram Namaz and Ziya Ulusoy, both of them are journalist-writer, Fusun Erdogan, the Chief Coordinator of Ozgur Radio- have been imprisoned. Thereafter, 3 more revolutionaries, who were detained in Mersin, were also imprisoned in the same context on 15 September. Throughout the detention period, the police did not allow and still not allowing the detained revolutionaries to speak with their families and lawyers by using as excuse the new TMY (Anti-terror Law). The Atilim Newspaper received 2 weeks of banning penalty because of carrying the news about detentions and imprisonment terror into their pages. Again, on the 9th of September, the day after the Parliament's approval of Lebanon decree, 18 revolutionaries who were protesting the UN General Secretary, Kofi Annan's visit to Ankara and the sending of troops to Lebanon were imprisoned in Ankara. Lastly, the Turkish state has massacred 10 people -8 of them are children- through detonating a bomb in Diyarbakir, through its counter-guerrilla forces. These attacks, which have been carried out by the Turkish state, the collaborator of USA imperialism and Zionism, and in connection with the USA imperialism's plans in the Middle East, are the attacks to intimidate the social opposition and -at first- its most progressive elements, to hinder the brotherhood and united struggle of the Turkish and Kurdish people through counter-guerrilla massacres and provocations, to obstruct workers and labourers from joining in the social fight through lynching hysteria, and to weaken the revolutionary and progressive forces. We, as the Middle East Anti-imperialist Struggle Coordination, announce that the Turkish state's aggression will not be able to stop the anti-imperialist and revolutionary struggle, cannot surrender revolutionaries; that the massacres against the people and the state terror on the revolutionaries will be put in vain. We call on all progressive, revolutionary and anti-imperialist forces to protest these practices of the Turkish state, and to be in solidarity with the imprisoned revolutionaries.
