The activities for the November Martyrs Month, dedicated for our martyrs those who gave their lives without hesitation for revolution and socialism, begun with a commemoration in the graveyard in Basibuyuk-Istanbul of comrade Erdal Balci who was killed by the police while hanging a banner for Unity Revolution onto a bridge in 1994. In the speech, which was made following a minute of silence, it was said: "10 September 1994 is the date of Unity Revolution that represents a great fight. And 4 November 1994 is the date of first bullet fired by the enemy at the cement of unity revolution. In September 2006, the state has escalated its aggression. But, despite to the claims that say `we ruined them`, we are still on the streets." In the commemoration, which was continued with songs by Vardiya Music Group, the people opened banner writing "One step forward in the footsteps of martyrs. We will defend their heritage!" and shouted slogans: "Erdal lives, Communists continue to fight", "Comrade Erdal is immortal" and "We promised for revolution to our martyrs".
