On May Day, which is the day of unity, solidarity and struggle for the working class, workers and labourers have stopped production and went to the squares. In different continents where workers speak different languages on that day they spoke the same language with the same emotions and heart beatings: "We are going to struggle continuously against capitalism, which is a system of exploitation and repression, against its wars and neo-liberal attacks! They emphasized that May Day is a special day of struggle for the working class with the following slogans: "Long Live May Day, Long Live Socialism".

Like around all over the world, May Day has been celebrated in enthusiasm in many cities and towns of our country, Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Adana. Despite to the prohibitions of the fascist dictatorship and attacks of the police in many places such as in the heart of Kurdistan, Amed, May Day has been celebrated.

Among the celebrations the most crowded one was in Istanbul. In the last few years, the Turkish state has been trying to put May Day in lattice in Sisli Abide-I Hurriyet Square. But this attitude of the State was repulsed by struggle. This struggle caused two different May Day celebrations since trade unions, civil organisations and revolutionary organisations did not agree on that. Communists, revolutionaries and labourers always want to celebrate May Day in Taksim Square. Because, this square is reachable more easily and not open to attacks coming from the police. The most importantly Taksim Square is an area where 34 people were killed in May Day 1977. The State has banned using Taksim Square to workers for years. This square needed to be re-conquered and the only way for it was struggle. Despite the fact that the state banned using Taksim Square in this year as well and recommended to use Sisli Abide-I Hurriyet Square, 40 thousands people joined the celebrations in May Day in Sarachane near to Taksim Square with different political parties and organisations such as DISK , KESK , TMMOB , TTB , ESP , TKP, ODP , DEHAP , HOC . Therefore, May Day has been freed by celebrating out of Sisli Abide-I Hurriyet Square and by breaking the status quo.

About 15 thousand workers and labourers joined the May Day celebrations that organised by some of the union confederations such as TURK-IS, HAK-IS, reformist parties such as EMEP and some of the revolutionary organisations in Sisli Abide-I Hurriyet Square through bowing their heads to the status quo.

In May Day celebrations in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, people stated their commitment in the struggle against capitalism and its government AKP , TUSIAD (the organisation of the capital), international capital, the US impe- rialism and the NATO. And they also stated that they will be in solidarity with the people of Iraq and Palestine.

The ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed), which has participated in the May Day celebrations in Sarachane, pulled the attentions of people with their discipline, commitment, enthusiasm, banners and etc. 1500 people marched behind the banner of ESP which was saying "No passage to NATO, Down with imperialism".

During the demonstration, the MLCP has opened a banner which was saying "The world will be liberated by socialism" and organized a block of about 100 persons. And its youth organisation has opened a banner saying "KGD6!" It is also learned that MLCP has opened banners and marched in other cities as well.

Together with the achievements of May Day, the forces of MLCP are now in the preparations of strong protests against NATO summit which will be held on 28-29 June in Istanbul. The task is now to realize the slogans that shouted frequently in May Day: "No passage to NATO", "Istanbul will be narrow to NATO".
