The mass opened a banner saying "Stop the isolation, stop the deaths".
Dursun Yildiz, current spokesman of the trade union KESK said in his speech: "The political dominance has still not found a solution. The problem must be solved on human basis. We do not defend death but life. Isolation is a problem of humanity. We are determined to continue organising our Saturday sit-ins until the problem of isolation will be solved."
After him, the protesters against isolation hold a speech in which they declared: "We hereby announce that we will continue to fight against isolation and we are here every Saturday, until the problem will be solved."
1000 people joined the second sit-in, which was organised on Januar 7, and revealed the threats of the police to attack their protest. The police surrounded Taksim Square with tanks and busses and threatened the masses that were about to start with the sit-in by saying: "You are not allowed to organise such a sit-in with so many people. Do your press release and finish the action without shouting slogans." The mass, however, answered these threats with loud protest and the slogan "Stop the isolation" and continued with their sit-in. The police had to move backwards because of the determination of the mass.
In the press statement that was held in the name of the protesters by Erol Ekici, chairman of the organisation branch of the trade union Genel-İş, it said: "We as the intellectuals, artists, democratic mass organisations, trade unionists, defenders of democracy and revolutionaries of this country are saying "enough". We are here at this place until isolation in prisoners will be stopped. Isolation is a punishment for humanity and must be abolished."
