Hundreds of thousands reacted against the murder of Hrant Dink, Armenian intellectual and Chief Editor of the newspaper "Agos", on 19 January.
Progressive, revolutionary, communist forces, organisations and individuals made a sit-in action in Taksim/Istanbul on 20 January in order to protest the murder of Hrant Dink. Cutting the road between Taksim and Osmanbey and shouting slogans in Turkish, Kurdish and Armenian, the demonstrators marched towards the newspaper Agos. They left red carnations and candles in the place where Dink was shot and a speech was made in front of the newspaper Agos, of which Dink was the chief editor. Suleyman Celebi, who made the speech on behalf of all the participants, said: "This bullet was fired against the fraternity of the peoples". He also expressed that the struggle of Dink would be continued by those who stand for democracy and human rights. Nearly 15 thousand people who participated at the march shouted the slogans "All we are Hrant Dink, all we are Armenians!" and "Long live the fraternity of the peoples!"
On the other hand, the efforts of the Turkish state to acquit itself from the murder and to turn the funeral into a state ceremony was put in vain, when Dink's family declared that they refuse the state ceremony and hundreds of thousands who gathered for the funeral pointed at the state as the responsible of the murder. The funeral took place on 23 January. It started with a march beginning in front of the newspaper Agos towards Yenikapi. The attempts of the bourgeois media and the fascist state to declare the march as a "silent march" was responded with the slogans "Long live the fraternity of the peoples!", "Agos never remained and will never remain silent!", "Murderer state will give account!", "All we are Hrant Dink, all we are Armenians!" and "Here is the state, here is the genocide!". Thus, the funeral was turned into an anti-fascist mass demonstration.
The protests against the murder continue with the actions and demonstrations in Istanbul, Izmir, Usak, Bursa and many other cities.
