Comrade Suleyman Yeter, education expert of the dockyard workers' union Limter-Is who was arrested by the police and killed under custody by torture on 7 March 1999 was commemorated on the anniversary of his becoming eternal at the grave yard in Alibeykoy/Istanbul where he was buried.
The commemoration event was called by the trade union Limter-Is and supported by the textile workers' union Tekstil-Sen and ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed). The participants opened a banner written "The killer of Suleyman Yeter is the Counter-guerrilla Republic!" and carried the photographs of Suleyman. The following was said at the speech that was made on behalf of the union Limter-Is: "We know very well who has murdered Suleyman. Those who have murdered Musa Anter and Hrant Dink have also murdered Suleyman. The killers of Suleyman are the agents of the Anti-terror Department.
The participants also called for participation at the hearing on 13 April where Ayse Yumli Yeter, general president of the union Tekstil-Sen, Cem Dinc, general president of Limter-Is and Zafer Tektas, general secretary of Limter-Is who are all in prison will also be judged. Another call was made for participation at the demonstration on 12 March which is the anniversary of the massacre in Gazi (a workers' district in Istanbul) in 1995 where the fascist dictatorship had killed 23 labourers during a local uprising. And it was expressed that participation at this demonstration and at the demonstration on 21 March, Newroz Day (national fiesta of the Kurdish people) was important to ask account from the killers.
Comrade Suleyman was commemorated also in Izmir, Antep, Adana, Eskisehir and Izmit through various activities.
The militants of our party MLCP hang up banners and filled the walls in Tuzla with the slogans "MLCP will ask account from the killers!" and "Comrade Suleyman Yeter is immortal!"
