Responding the call of TTB (Turkish Doctors' Union) and SES (Health Workers' Union), 10 thousand health workers coming from different cities gathered in Ankara at the "White Meeting" on 11 March. The labourers who protested the destructive health policies of the government of AKP (Justice and Development Party) started their action in front of the Central Train Station of Ankara and marched towards Sihhiye Square under the banner "Health is a Right!"
The march and demonstration at the Sihhiye Square were supported by many other organisations, among them TMMOB (Chamber of Architects and Engineers), Dev Saglik-Is (another union of the health workers), KESK (Confederation of the Public Labourers' Unions), Emekli-Sen (Union of the Retired), ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed), Halkevleri , EMEP (Labour Party), HÖC (Front for Rights and Freedoms). The slogans "No budget for IMF!", "Sufficient budget for health!", "Discussion, authority and decisions must be executed by the workers!" and "Health is a right; it cannot be sold!"
Prof. Dr. Gencay Gursoy, president of the Central Council of TTB made a speech at the demonstration. He drew attention to the fact that the Ministry of Health still insists on the changes in the law, which is refused by the people, and he mentioned the demands of the health workers.
The health workers, who have been continuing their "White Campaign" since the beginning of March, have slowed down work within the framework of "White Strike" on 14 March. They also organised actions in the city centres and cried out the slogans "Enough is enough! We are on a white action for our rights for health, employment, working security and for the dignity of our profession!" and "Commerce in health means death! The hospitals belong to the people; they cannot be shut down!"
