Mass organisations, among them KESK , DISK Genel-Is, Halkevleri and IHD , have made a street action at Yuksel Street in Ankara on 25 April and they protested the candidature of Abdullah Gul for presidency. The demonstrators wanted to march towards the office of AKP (Party of Justice and Development) but they were hindered through a police barricade.
The slogans "He is the candidate of USA; not of the people!", "USA-murderers! AKP-collaborators!" and "Candidate of USA, for how much did you sell this people!" were shouted at the action.
The demonstrators expressed the following in their statement: "Abdullah Gul is not the choice of the people. This choice which is refused by the people will make the political and social tension permanent. But the people will increase the struggle for their own rights and aims."
