The Mayday terror directed by Istanbul Governorship lead to the death of the 75-year- old Ibrahim Sevindik. Istanbul Governorship, who commanded the brutal attacks on workers and labourers with gas bombs and plastic bullets, in order to hinder them to celebrate Mayday on Taksim Square, who turned Taksim into a gas chamber, arrested more than 700 labourers, cancelled the shipping traffic, reduced the road traffic to one single lane and therefore paralyzed all traffic at all, finally killed a labourer. When cardiac Sevindik left his home on Mayday, he collapsed due to the big amount of pepper gas which covered Taksim. His son Ilker Sevindik explained that he found his father after 10 minutes because of the smoke and that they were only able "to reach the hospital after half an hour as all streets were closed whereas it normally only takes five minutes". He also said that he will report an offense for the punishment of those being responsible in this case. Ibrahim Sevindik lost his life after 36 hours on the accident and emergency unit. At the same time, the demand for the resignation of Istanbul Governor Muammer Güler because of the terror on Mayday is growing. The trade union Limter-Is organized a protest action on May 2 at Icmeler Train station demanding the resignation of Istanbul Governor Muammer Güler and Istanbul police chief Celalettin Cerrah. The trade union's members declared: "The labourers, who are not respected by the ruling forces, have shown their power. We have presented our will and this is our achievement. From now on Taksim is open to all labourers. Taksim is a place for celebrating Mayday." The Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ) started a signature campaign with the demand for the resignation of Istanbul Governor Muammer Güler. On May 3, ESP also organized actions with the same demand in different cities. On May 3, the trade unions DISK and KESK , the doctors' chamber, the Federation of the 78ies, the association of the Alevites PSKAD, the ESP and the organizations TKP, SDP , HÖC, and Halkevleri organized an action on Yuksel Street in Ankara demanding the resignation of Governor Muammer Güler who "on Mayday showed hostility to 15 million people by paralyzing the city". Lawyers affiliated to the Association of Modern Jurists (CHD) handed in a complaint at Sultanahmet judicial court and demanded the resignation of the interior minister, Istanbul Governor and police chief. On May 4, journalists marched to the governorship's building with the slogans "Governor resign!" and "Stop the violations on the freedom of press!". By protesting against the police attacks, they demanded the resignation of Istanbul Governor. The parties EMEP and TKP, the human rights association IHD , the Istanbul business chambers for health, the Federation of the 78ies, the chamber of engineers and architects ( TMMOB ) and many other organizations made a press statement to raise this demand. Interior minister Abdülkadir Aksu, who answered questions of journalists before joining a meeting of the AKP , supported the Governor and claimed that the majority of the people who went to Taksim on Mayday are members of illegal organizations and therefore neither the police chief nor the Governor will resign.
