Kurdish migrant labourers living in Europe met for a demonstration in Strasbourg, France on May 12, the 32nd day of an indefinite hungerstrike with the demand that an independent health delegation should be sent to Imrali, in order to prove the claim that Abdullah Öcalan had been poisened. Altogether 70.000 people from different countries joined the demonstration.
The demonstrators shouted slogans such as "Long live our leader Apo" and "The poisoning of Öcalan means the poisoning of the freedom". The demands of the protestors were an immediate end of the isolation in which Abdullah Öcalan is held and the democratic solution in the Kurdish question. After the minute`s silence for the martyrs, the message of the leading organisation of the Kurdish national movement (KKK) was read. In its message, the KKK saluted the people being in hungerstrike. At the rally, it was also announced that 103.000 signatures, which had been collected based on the same demand, have been handed over to the European Parliament. Remzi Kartal, representing the migrant labourers of the indefinite hungerstrike, held a speech from the podium and called the Kurdish people for the continuation of their resistance.
Our party MLCP joined the demonstration with its banner saying "Equality, brotherhood, freedom for the Kurdish nation" and flags. The message our European Committee had sent was also read saluting the demonstration and the hungerstrike.
Whilst the migrant Kurdish labourers` hungerstrike is now on its 36th day, the Federation of the Associations for Help and Solidarity with the prisoners` families (TUHAD-FED) has started a hungerstrike in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan with the same demand.
The ceasefire announced by the KKK for the period October 1 2006 until May 18 2007 is experiencing its last days. The deployment of troops next to the border by the colonial fascist Turkish army, the military operations in Northern Kurdistan and the threatening declarations are continuing intensively.
On May 12, the HPG guerillas organized armed attacks on the police station, the military unit and the prefect in the small city of genc, Bingöl, using rockets and other means.
