Textile workers of the Diktas Iplik Industry in Kartal-Cevizli, Istanbul, organized an action in front of their factory on 5 June to protest against the fact that their wages have not been increased since Mart last year and for an improvement of the bad working conditions. The workers showed the trade union, that has not been defending the workers` demands so far, the red card. The textile workers expressed that their monthly wage of 500 million TL (around 250 Euro) was decreased to 400 million TL (around 200 Euro) in Mart last year. They also said that they are allowed to have only half an hour break and receive only 20 million TL (10 euro) overtime pay for an extra 8 hour shift. The workers` rage is based on the trade union as it does not stand up against the bad working conditions and the health service in the factory that is only a showpiece. The protesters also said: "Instead of defending our interests, the trade union defends the employers ` interests. They permanently tell us "Calm down, the boss gets angry." We don`t want such a trade union. Following the workers` protest with the slogans "The workers are here, where is the trade union?" and "We want our representative immediately to be here!", the workers` representative appeared and demanded the dispersal of the mass. However, he was ousted by the workers. When the vice chairman of TEKSIF Ali Seyman came in front of the factory together with the chairman of the branch, they had to flee when the mass showed their rage. The workers expressed that they will continue with their actions until their problems will be solved.
