Democratic organisations and political parties, among them the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ), EHP , SDP , B DSP , HÖC and DHP, who planned to make an action under the slogan "End the provocations, lynching attacks and massacres" on June 16 at Taksim Square, were attacked by the police. The mass, that carried the banner "End the provocations, lynching attacks and massacres/ Freedom to the Kurdish people", answered the attacks by shouting the slogans "End the provocations", "The repression can't hinder us" and "The fascist state will have to pay an account". 19 out of the 36 who were arrested and beaten, among them also journalists and passers-by, have been released so far. Among the arrested are also four children. In order to protest against the police attack, a common press statement was made at the Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association IHD in the evening of the same day. In the statement, it was said that the attack had been carried out on the basis of the new police law which grants the police more rights. Whilst the provocations and lynching attacks, that have increased after the general staff's warning on April 27, were condemned, the organizations called on the people not to join the rally for the support of a coup at Caglayan on June 24 organized by the general staff. They also demanded an immediate end of the provocations increasing against the Kurdish people and threat and attacks of a cross-border operation.
