The early general elections of July 22 have come to an end. According to the election results, the government party AKP gained 46.66% of votes and could defend its position as the major party by far. The CHP got 20.85% and the MHP 14.29%. The other parties could not manage to pass the 10% threshold applied in the whole country to all political parties who want to join their deputies to parliament. Therefore, while the AKP sends 341, the CHP 112 and the MHP 71 deputies to parliament, another important result of the elections are the 23 independent candidates supported by the DTP who will enter parliament, too. Because of the 10% threshold for political parties, the DTP had decided to take part in the elections with independent deputy candidates. According to the election results, the DTP candidates, among them also former DTP general president Ahmet Turk and former co-president Aysel Tugluk, as well as ODP leader Ufuk Uras and SDP honorary president Akin Birdal have joined parliament. DTP leader Sebahat Tuncel, who as a female prisoner has been also candidating for the 3rd zone of Istanbul, has been among the DTP candidates elected, too. With the high number of votes gained, the AKP has left a big distance among the party on the one hand and the CHP, that has become the spokesman number one of the army, and the other forces on the other hand. By that, it also showed that the effort of the military fascist front lead by the army to create a mass basis through the "Rallies for the Republic" and the provocations for a military coup proclaimed through the memorandum of April 27 were all unsuccessful. The AKP, collaborator and main responsible force for the policy of neo-liberal attacks, however, has managed to get the votes of the workers and labourers who were upset about the CHP and form the government by itself. The racist fascist MHP has entered parliament by passing the threshold on the basis of the military fascist front`s chauvinist provocations.
