The 12th Heavy Penalty Court of Istanbul ordered a one moth lasting publication ban for the magazine Ozgur Halk with the claim that there was " PKK propaganda made" in its last issue. The decision was condemned in a statement made by the staff of the magazine who also stressed that together with the introduction of the anti-terror law pressure on the free press has increased. They said "All these and the oppression will not make us give up our justified struggle and our freedom values."
Ozgur Halk and Genc Bakis magazines licence holder Suat Kolca, employee Yasar Duman, Selahattin Sumeli and Tuncay Gundogdu, member of the youth parliament of DTP -Istanbul, who had been detained after police raids on the offices of the magazines, were released on September 21 after having been behind bars for one year.
The Socialist Platform of the oppressed ( ESP ) also made a statement in which it said: "This is an attack against thinking, acting and organising. The oppression on the free press applied by the anti-terror law and art. 301 will be smashed with the united struggle."
