After the Turkish Air Lines, this time the workers of Turkish Telekom went on strike. On October 16 altogether 25,680 workers from all over Turkey declared to be on strike demanding firstly an improvement of working and salary conditions. When the trade union Haber-Is and Turkish Telekom did not manage to reach a deal in the negotiations on a collective agreement lead since May this year, the workers hanged up banners read "This work place is on strike" at every single work place and started to strike. The strike has been supported nationally and internationally by many democratic mass organisations, trade unions and individuals.
The trade union Haber-Is declared in a statement that this strike is also a fight to defend the workers` rights that they had achieved so far. Yet in the early hours of the strike, that had to face provocation attacks by the bourgeois media, news were published ordered by the bosses claiming an act of "sabotage".
Trade unions and organisations such as first of all Tekstil-Sen , Limter-Is , ESP and SGD as well as Petrol-Is , Tek Gida-Is, Genç Sen, Yol-Is , Tümtis, Hava-Is , EMEP and mail workers made written statements in different cities and visited the workers on strike to show their solidarity with them.
During the visits, Petrol-Is general president Mustafa Oztaskin hold a speech in which he said: "This strike is not only the strike of the Telekom workers but of the whole working class!. They continue with their attacking programs at every field and realise privatisation. With the Telekom strike we must fight not only the local capital but the international capital."
The strike that also caused international protests was also supported by the Global Union, a trade union with more than 15 million workers worldwide. Global Union which has more than 2 million workers in the Telekom sector sent a letter to Turkey's prime minister, the minister of labour, the minister of social security and the minister of transport in which it said: "We totally support the struggle of our colleagues and the workers that are involved in the negotiations on a collective agreement to receive appropriate salaries."

NOVAMED workers have been resisted for more than 1 year!

Female workers of the factory Novamed had started a resistance one year ago against the brutal working conditions and for an improvement of their rights of organising themselves. The women must get permission from the bosses to marry or to become pregnant. The workers were not allowed to talk to each other neither during the working hours nor even on the buses that belong to the transport service taking them home.
In this sense, the strike means a revote against these slavery conditions.
Since the begin of the strike by 81 women working at the Novamed factory, located at the Antalya Free Trade Zone, on September 26, 2006 a whole year has passed by now. In many cities the Women's Platform in Solidarity with the Novamed Strike organised actions in September this year to support the strike.
On September 26, the women went all to Antalya to realise an action together with the Novamed workers in front of the Antalya branch of Petrol-Is. The action was also supported by female unionists from Russia, Romania and Belgium. The Novamed strike is also supported internationally by many trade unions.
An important characteristic of the Novamed strike is that the strike is lead by women and that they continue determinedly although so much time has passed. And although the strike is not finished, the women's struggle lead than more than one year now has achieved some results. For those who did not participate in the strike, working conditions were improved.
Now, it is all about finishing the strike with victory.
