The demand to ban the DTP

The colonial fascist dictatorship once again announced that it will not approach a democratic solution in the Kurdish question. The answer given to all efforts for peace by the Kurdish national movement is the concentration of the traditional denial and annihilation policy.
The new game of the dictatorship was against the democratic achievements of the Kurdish people and the legitimated political activities according to the laws. Despite all obstacles and oppression, the DTP was elected into parliament and founded its own fraction within parliament. This was unacceptable for the Turkish state that does not even accept the Kurdish people΄s right to legal political activities. It is only a time of question to find any opportunity to get the representatives of the Kurdish people out of the political life. In mid November, the attorney general opened a procedure to ban the DTP after having ordered investigations against some deputies despite their immunity. With this procedure, the aim is to ban the DTP as a party and to enjoin 221 leaders, among them 7 MPs, and party members from being politically active for the next 5 years. The demand on the party`s ban is a part of the concept which is based on the denial and annihilation policy. The Constitutional Court has accepted this demand and the process has started.
The procedure to ban the DTP relies on the claim that this party "has become the centre of actions to attack the independence of the state and the indivisible unity of the country and the people." In the charge it is said that the DTP is the successor of the party HADEP which had also been banned, that the DTP was founded in line with the directive of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan and that its mission is to act to fulfil the PKK`s aims. Different statements of the DTP MPs and their speeches hold life at Roj TV as well as many actions and activities organised by the DTP are considered as a crime; it is also claimed that the DTP activists, who had been imprisoned after the DTP offices were raided recently, helped and supported the PKK. The efforts of the DTP MPs for the release of the 8 Turkish soldiers that had been taken hostage in October by the PKK are also named in the charge.
Another point that attracts attention in the case of banning the DTP is the fact that although the procedure has been opened at the Constitutional Court, the process is being handled as a "criminal procedure".
This new attack against the Kurdish people was the reason for protests throughout the country. The DTP president said that the court has hindered "Turkey to become democratic and modern" and turned "Turkey into a cemetery of parties".
Many forces such as the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ), trade unions and intellectuals organised solidarity actions and openly declared that this procedure to ban the party is an attack on the democratic achievements of the Kurdish people and a scandal that can not be accepted.
The Turkish state has closed many parties in its history. An important part of it were the political organisations of the Kurdish people banned with procedures. However, banning the parties did not achieve anything and the Kurdish people always rebuilt its organisations on the basis of its organised armed struggle. The Kurdish people did not get this right from the Turkish state but from its own legitimated struggle. The procedure opened to ban the party is clearly an indicator for the quandary of the colonial fascist dictatorship in the Kurdish question.
