The five women workers who had lost their life burning alive at their workplace Ozay Textile Factory in Bursa on December 29, 2005 because of their boss' gear for profit were commemorated. The doors of Ozay Textile factory, where the women workers between 15-32 years were employed without any insurance, used to be locked to hinder the workers to leave their work place. Because of this reason, the women had not been able to escape from the fire. In the process that was opened later against the boss of the factory, it came out that the boss had rejected the insurance of the workers and did not want to take minimum precautions but insured his factory and the area around it for a high price. The insurance of the workers, however, was made after the bodies were buried. The boss of the factory Lokman Ozay was only sentenced to a fine of 182 YTL and was a MP candidate for the racist fascist National Action Party ( MHP ) in the July 22 elections.
On December 29, the Labourer Women Association ( EKD ) organised an action related to the murder of the women at Kadikoy Iskele Square. With a statement, the women protested against the fine of 182 YTL given to the factory boss who is responsible for the death of the women workers and also stressed the hard working conditions the women workers must face.
The EKD activists also reminded of the victory the Novamed women workers achieved in the last weeks after leading a strike for a whole year and declared that rights can only be achieved through struggling.
At the action, the right on free kindergarden and the cancellation of GSS (General Health Insurance) were also demanded.
Bursa Women Platform commemorated the five women workers, too, by organising a march. The women opened a banner read "150 women workers 1857 in New York, and 5 women workers in 2005 in Bursa were burned alive. We do not want to be burned alive, but live". In a statement the women stressed that the incidents can`t be considered as work related accidents but murders.
