With an action and different activities in Ankara,
Limter-Is union, affiliated to
DISK , finished its one month lasting campaign titled "We are marching to Ankara" demanding an end to the work-related accidents called "murders" by taking appropriate precautions.
On the evening of January 28, the union members organised an action at Icmeler Train Station exposing the hard working conditions at Tuzla shipyards and announcing their demands. After that, they began to travel to Ankara.
The workers and families of workers who had lost their lives in work-related accidents reached Ankara on January 29 and organised immediately an action in front of Parliament raising the slogan "They did not die in the war, but at the shipyards". The activists also shouted the slogans "Stop the deaths", "We want to work under human conditions" and "We want to live under human conditions" at the action which was supported by
ESP ,
DİSK and different organisations such as
Halkevleri .
Another demand at the action was the foundation of a commission by parliament to investigate the work-related murders as well as the ensurance of human working conditions at the shipyards.
After the statement Limter-Is members met with MPs and handed over a "Report on the truth at Tuzla shipyards" prepared by the commission for observation and investigation of the shipyards in the region Tuzla as well as the signatures collected among the workers.
