Protests against the „murder at work place" that happened like a massacre in Davutpasa, Istanbul, have continued. On January 31, 23 workers had lost their lives and many people had been injured following an explosion in workplace producing fireworks in a 5 storey business building at Davutpasa, Istanbul. Labour organisations consider the government as responsible for this explosion in an area where workers are mainly employed not being registered, having no insurance and security and under unhealthy conditions.
On February 6, unions and professional associations organised an action in front of the building where the explosion had taken place and demanded the charge of those responsible for the explosion. Nearly 200 people joined this action which emphasized that the respective work place did not have a permission and license and that no controls have been made so far although many work places in this industrial area are alike.
DİSK general president Süleyman Celebi also held a speech stressing the work related accidents that lead to a death of workers. Celebi pointed out that 15 workers have died at the shipyards only within one year because of work-related accidents. .
On the same day Tekstil-Sen members filed charges against the Ministry of Labour and other authorities that they consider as responsible for the explosion.
