The Democratic Society Party ( DTP ) realised an action called "human shield" in Sirnak, Northern Kurdistan, to protest against the military operations carried out by the colonial fascist Turkish state in Southern and Northern Kurdistan. The march with the slogan "Democratic solution against the operations" was started on February 4 and joined by thousands of people coming from 28 cities, among them Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Adana, Denizli, Mugla, Van, Siirt, Kars, Hakkari, Malatya, Antep, Ardahan, Agri, Dersim, Elazig and Hatay, and was finished on February 6 at Kasrik Pass. The action was supported by many revolutionary and progressive organisations, among them ESP , SDP , EMEP , HOC and Kurtulus. During the march, the activists shouted the slogans "Biji serok Apo", "Biji aşiti" and "Guerrilla strikes and founds Kurdistan" and were saluted by gatherings of thousands of people in Mardin, Nusaybin and Cizre. They were also molested by the gendarmerie throughout the march that arbitrarily carried out ID controls. Drivers were threatened and car number plates were written down by police and gendarmerie. From the evening of February 5 on, nearly 6.000 "human shields" started to arrive at Kasrik Pass and stayed in tents over night. The mass gathered in the morning by shouting slogans. DTP Co-President Emine Ayna read a declaration demanding an end to the operations. She called on the TBMM to cancel its draft law on an operation in South Kurdistan, to stop the operations as well on the PKK to become inactive. Besides, demands such as an end of the denial and annihilation policy, an integration of the Kurdish identity in the Constitution and the guarantee of education in Kurdish mother tongue were named. The mass finished its action by shouting slogans.
