On 8 March, the International Labouring Women`s Day, thousands of women in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan went on the streets first of all in Istanbul, Ankara, Cukurova and Amed raising slogans for equality and brotherhood.

In Istanbul, 8 March Women`s Platform, among them the Association of Labouring Women ( EKD ), Democratic Society Party ( DTP ), Democratic Free Women`s Movement, Socialist Democratic Party and EMEP , organised a rally. Altogether 5,000 women joined the rally titled "We are against war, violence, poverty, discrimination, SSGSS / We will not keep silent but stop it" and which was supported by other organisations and unions such as DISK , KESK , ODP and EHP . With the banner read "We will not keep silent but stop it" in front of the demonstration, the women marched until Iskele Square at Kadikoy, Istanbul where the rally took place. During the rally the women raised their protests against the Social Insurance and General Health Security draft law and demanded a human life, peace and safe working conditions.
The activists of EKD opened the banners read "The liberation of the women comes with the revolution and socialism" and "Freedom for the women, brotherhood to the people". The activists of EKD drew special attention to themselves because of their appearance, number and their drum band and carried posters on which it said "We don`t want the kitchens, but the world", "Kurdish, Turkish, Armenian, long live the peoples` brotherhood" and "Revolt against GSS and violence".
The students` union Genc-Sen and the Young Women Lawyers also participated in the rally with their own banners for the first time. The Kurdish women, however, formed the biggest group of the rally with a banner on which it said "Our last word on war, violence, usurping identity, exploitation and women`s murders is that it is enough" and "Let us organise to hinder war". The Kurdish women who came to the rally with their traditional and national clothes shouted the slogans "Jin Jiyan Azadi" and "Biji Aşiti".
The families of those dockyard workers who had lost their lives in so called accident-related murders joined the rally of 8 March with their banner saying "Wives should not become widows and the children orphans from now on" and demanded an end to the acidents leading to death at the dockyards. The workers of Ilbek Tekstil firmand the workers of Kocaeli University affiliated to Oleyis union who are currently leading a resistance held a speech at the rally in which they informed on their demands.

In Izmir, 3.500 women gathered following the call of 8 March Women`s Platform and opened the banner "To make us seen and our voice heard ; solidarity is our power and freedom is our aim." The rally was joined by women organisations such as EKD, DTP, SDP , EMEP and ODP. EKD women carried the banner read "Freedom to the women, brotherhood to the people". The rally was started with a minute`s silence and the statement in the name of the platform was read out in Kurdish and Turkish.
In Ankara, 1.700 women marched until Abdi Ipekci Park shouting the slogans "Long live 8 March, long live women`s solidarity", "We are women, we are strong, we will win", "Jin, jiyan, azadi" and "Stop sexual, national and class exploitation." Here, Nezahat Tekin of the Mothers for Peace was arrested at the end of the rally with the claim of having spoken in Kurdish and taken to the anti-terror unit. 8 March Women`s Platform organised a protest on March 9 to protest the arrest of Teke.

In Amed, more than 10.000 women participated in the celebrations. JAS (Free Socialist Women) sent a greeting message which was read out and in which it exposed the dirty war policy of the AKP saying "We first of all as the Kurdish women are not going to allow these murder politicians and bloodsuckers to act anymore. We are saying, it has been enough! Êdî bes e, êdî bes e, êdî bes e!"
While the activists of 8 March Women`s Platform in Antep sent solidarity cards to the female political prisoners, 8 March Democratic Women`s Platform of Malatya, among them EKD, too, organised a march to Tekel factory to show their solidarity with the women workers. The women workers of Tekel saluted the marching women with carnations.
In Bursa, Samsun, Hopa, Dersim, Mersin, Cukurova, Van, Nurhak, Mugla, Canakkale, Kayseri and many other Kurdish cities labourer women organised many different actions and activities celebrating 8 March, International Labouring Women`s Day.
