Newroz celebrations took also place in Van, Hakkari and Siirt although having been banned by the state. Despite the bans thousands of people went on the streets and were attacked by the police. Due to the police terror, clashes occured. Thousands of Kurds went on the streets although dozens of them had been injured and arrestedas the governor had arbitrarily banned the celebrations. The police used arms in the clashes which lasted until late night. 10.000 joined the Newroz celebrations at Kiziltepe, Mardin; 10.000 were also on the streets at Derik; 20.000 at Igdir and 10.000 also at Bulanik, Mus; 3.000 at Siverek; 5.000 at Suruc and 10.000 at Sirnak.
