The trial started against the gendarmerie and the prison administration of Bayrampasa Prison, Istanbul, concerning the massacre in the prisons carried out on December 19 , 2000 and resulting in 12 revolutionary prisoners killed and 55 casualties, was stopped with the claim of limitation. The last hearing of this process, that has lasted for 7 years, was on June 23. Altogether 1615 people were charged of "mistreatment", "misuse of the duties" and "carelessness during working hours" and wanted to be sentenced to prison for 1 to 6 years. {divide} The prisoners` lawyers protested against the decision of the court to stop this trial without even listening to the witnesses and left the courtroom. Besides; the trial against the revolutionary prisoners in Malatya Prison that started after the attacks on December 19 and had tended towards a massacre was ended this week. The prisoners were charged "to have resisted against the prison administration" and "to have damaged public property" and each of them sentenced to 3 years behind bars. During the attacks on December 19, 2000, 34 prisoners had been injured. Later a process was started against 54 revolutionary prisoners, but not against the gendarmerie and police. Among those who were also convicted are the former prisoners of the MCP and DHKP-C Ender Can Yildiz, Muharrem Cetinkaya, Fatma Bilgin, Melek Birsen Hosver and Feride Harman, who had become martyrs during s hunger strike.
