In the evening of July 27, two explosions took place in Istanbul-Gungoren in which 18 persons died and many people got injured. After the explosion of a trash container the people gathered at the scene of the crime and in this moment the second bomb of RDX type exploded. This kind of bomb has been used already before in assassinations and massacres carried out by the counter-guerilla. {divide}
Meanwhile the forces of the bourgeois Turkish state and the bourgeois media try to impute the explosion to the PKK , the headquarters of the HPG said in a statement published on July 28: “We don’t have to do anything with the explosion in Istanbul-Gungoren on the yesterday evening”. Kongra-Gel and many other Kurdish organisations made also statements stating clearly that the PKK cannot be connected with the massacre.
Moreover, a lot of revolutionary, democratic and Kurdish-patriotic organisations made also statements and actions condemning the massacre.
On July 29, the trade-union Egitim-Sen , affiliated to KESK , organised a meeting at the scene of crime, where the responsibility of the counter-guerilla for this attack has been underlined. Representatives of KESK, TTB , ODP and the ESP also supported the meeting. It was expressed that the labouring people will ask account for the massacres of the counter-guerrilla and the following slogans have been shouted: “Find the murder, ask for account” and “Disbanding of the counter-guerrilla”. After the meeting and the march Halit Kilinc, member of the 1st Istanbul branch of Egitim-Sen, who died at the explosion, was buried.
Protests against the massacre took place on July 28, in Ankara and on July 29 in Adana. At the protest actions the facts, which came to daylight concerning the Ergenekon gang forming part of the counter guerilla organisations were underlined and slogans like “Down with MIT , CIA and counter guerilla” were shouted.
On July 29, also protest meetings of the IHD Istanbul branch in Istanbul-Taksim and of the Group of Contemporary Lawyers in front of the Istanbul Incorporated Law Society took place. At these meetings, they demanded the clearing up of the massacres in Gungoren, Sivas, Maras , Corum and numerous cases of murder committed by the counter guerilla. At the meeting organised by the IHD, the MP from Istanbul of the DTP , Sebahat Tuncel and the representative of the ESP, Ismet Yurtsever hold a speech.
