The main slogan of the MLCP forces at the ESF in Malmo was "a socialist Europe is possible".

After Florence, Paris, London and Athens, this year the 5th European Social Forum took place in Sweden, Malmo and thousands of people gathered there continuing their search for another world. The ESF started on September 17 and continued until September 21 with hundreds of seminars, panel discussions and workshops as well as many cultural events and two demonstrations, one of them a big one. The activities were about many topics like antimilitarism, attacks on the working class, working life and struggle of the trade-unions, rights of women, human rights, environmental problems, struggle against racism and national questions. The highlight of the ESF was the demonstration, in which more than 15.000 people participated from almost all the countries of Europe and where also immigrants from Asia, Latin America and Africa living in Sweden and the rest of Europe were present.
The fact that from trade-unions to mass organisations, from environmental organisations to anti-war platforms, from solidarity organisations with the political prisoners to political parties many social and political organisations participated in the forum and that people being in a search, men and women, young and elderly people, natives and immigrants of all age and from all nations came together and discussed the present system is of course a positive development. However, the important point is what was presented as an alternative to the workers and labourers being in a search for another Europe or another world.
Like it was also the case at the Social Forums before, also here two different political attitudes and alternatives came to the agenda. One of them, including a broad spectrum of the reformist and pacifist circles holding in their hands the organisation of the ESF in first place, but reaching from the big trade-unions of Europe up to and various NGOs, defends that problems like unemployment, poverty, pollution and racism may be solved within the capitalist-imperialist system and they present such a reformed capitalist system as an alternative to the workers and labourers. This attitude, which under no circumstances aims at destroying this system, which is build on exploiting the working class and the labourers and on poverty, which is the origin of misery and wars, on the contrary, it defends this system and serves capitalism, it presents the capitalist system as an alternative to those being in a search for "another Europe".
The other political point of view in the ESF, which is also represented by our party and contrary to the first one, responds to the search for another Europe with the slogan "a socialist Europe is possible" and exposes the capitalist system as the source of the problems discussed in the ESF showing socialism as an alternative. Our party is shouting to the broad masses of a wide spectrum coming together at the social forums that the alternative of the imperialist capitalist system is socialism and says to the masses coming from different countries in a search for and with the hope for "another Europe" that it is necessary to struggle on the basis of anti-imperialism, revolution and socialism against imperialism and reaction.

The main slogan of the MLCP forces at the ESF in Malmo was "a socialist Europe is possible". By means of the special issue of our International Bulletin we distributed, in the panels and seminars we participated, with the poster we hanged up in the streets of Malmo and the banner we carried we underlined the fact, that another world and another Europe will be a socialist world and a socialist Europe.
One of the remarkable problems at the ESF in Malmo was that the venues of the forum were scattered and thus the participants lost o lot of time going from one venue to the other. It is necessary to draw lessons for future ESFs from that repeating of such an organisations leading to problems, which already was the case before at the ESF hold in Paris and which were criticised already at that time by the participants. The demonstration, which took place on September, 20 and gathered all the participants, gave enthusiasm and moral to the masses both because of the participation, which was more or less according to that what was expected and also because of bringing together participants from different countries and nations. The Anti-imperialist Space, which was built in 2006 at the ESF in Athens and comprises communist and revolutionary forces from many countries, expressed itself in Malmo by distributing a leaflet, however it was a big omission that the space was not set up actively.
The forces of our party will do everything possible in order to save the 6th ESF, which will be organised in 2010 in Istanbul, from reformist/pacifist content and to create a revolutionary atmosphere and content.
