"What we are talking about is the downfall or the existence of the Soviet State; the life or death of the people of the Soviet Union; the liberation or slavery of the people of the USSR" (Stalin, About the Great Homeland War of the SU, page 10, 1951, 3 July 1941, radio speech).

"The empire of 1000 years" capitulated on 8 May unconditionally, 12 years after Hitler came to power. More than 55 million of people died in World War II which was started by Fascist Germany. 27 million of them were the Soviet people.

The World War II has been started as an imperialist war. After being attacked by German fascism, the Soviet State started to see the war as a liberation war defending the country against the occupation.

8 May does not only convey a historical but also a current message. Historically seen, the meaning of 8 May:

8 May means at the same time the liberation of European people, including the Germans, from fascism and imperialist war. The Red Army played an important role for the liberation of the countries in East and Central Europe and the Balkan States from the fascist yoke. Thus, the Red Army managed to bring the plan of the imperialists of sharing the Balkan States to nothing.

8 May 1945 is the date of the end of the war and means at the same time the defeat of German fascism and imperialism. However, 8 May 1945 should not just be restricted to this fact. 8 May 1945 means victory of socialism and Soviet system against fascism and capitalism in general.

The victory of socialism against fascism was the reason for the rise of national and anti-colonial liberation movements. The SU gained a gigantic prestige by the working class, masses of toilers, oppressed people and nations in the whole world. The Socialist system was regarded with hope.

After Khrushchev revisionists enforced the political governance on the XX. Party Congress in 1956, socialism was destroyed in the country of proletarian dictatorship. In 1991, revisionist SU was suspended. These events encouraged the imperialist bourgeoisie to hide the facts. Whilst after the war the imperialists had not even the courage to think about it, nowadays they announce it everywhere with the aim to hide the facts: They deny the crucial role of socialist SU on the defeat of fascism.

The aim of the attacks on socialist SU and Stalin is to hide the truth that socialism is the alternative to capitalism and that socialism is a progressive type of society. The attack on Stalin is an attack on the proletarian dictatorship.

Despite the seizure of socialism in 1956, the role of socialism and Stalin in humanity's history and the total victory of the socialist system led by Stalin against fascism still show us nowadays the way of our anti-fascist and anti-imperialist struggle and in the working class' struggle for socialism. Those who want to beat capitalism have to learn from Bolshevik Party, the Soviet people and Stalin. The fact that socialism is the only alternative has yet been demonstrated by socialist USSR who beat German fascism and capitalism.

To memorize is not enough. Memorizing must be understood as learning and this has to be put into practice. The only way to make the 21st century the century of socialism's victory is to learn from Soviet experiences.

This history and this victory are ours! We are supposed to fight against fascism and capitalism in the same way as those who fought to create this history.

Those who want to gain victory over fascism, capitalism and imperialism have to follow these lines.
