Members of the SGD made an action on December 22 at the Bogazici University with the demand of freedom to al-Zaidi, the journalist who threw his shoes to Bush as a protest act. The activists of the SGD stated the following at the action: "As the young socialists of Turkey, we see solidarity with al-Zaidi as an anti-imperialist task. If "assaulting a foreign president" is a crime, we commit the same crime here; we throw our shoes to the occupier".

After the statement, they threw their shoes to a puppet of Bush and called upon the other students to do the same. The slogans shouted at the action were: "The murderer USA, get out of the Middle East!" and "Freedom to al-Zaidi!"
