In the last wave of the Ergenekon operations carried out at the same time in 6 different cities on January 7, 40 more people, the majority of them from military ranks, were arrested. Among the arrested are the former MGK General Secretary Tuncer Kilic, former YOK president Kemal Guruz, retired air marshal Erdal Sener, retired general Kemal Yavuz and former Special Operations Department president Ibrahim Sahin. While the houses of the arrested were searched, PCs and some documents were confiscated. In the raids grenades, arms and Kalashnikovs were found, and based on a drawing found in the house of Ibrahim Sahin, excavations were started at different places of Ankara and Hatay on January 8. During the excavations in the capital many grenades and 3 flame throwers were found. The arms found were declared to be those arms that got lost in the Susurluk incidence. Chief of the General Staff Ilker Basbug reacted and showed his anger with summoning a meeting of the commanders-in-chief of armed forces. It has been claimed that Prime Minister Erdogan and President Gul were informed of the decision taken at the meeting on January 9. This time Basbug didn't make a public declaration.
