Workers of Chicago lit a torch for an eight-hour workday on May 1, 1886. The 1st International, in 1889, announced the 1st of May as the international day of unity, solidarity and struggle for the working class of the world. Thereafter, the struggle of the workers and labourers of Chicago against capitalist barbarism has been a historical and political victory for the working class for 119 years in all over the world as the day of unity, solidarity and struggle joining together with the struggle against exploitation, oppression and brutality. May Day still continues to be the day of working class' struggle against capitalist barbarism.
Therefore, the international capital and reactionary have always attacked the working class' historical and political victory and May Day. In every occasion they try to abolish the May Day as a paid leave day. The bourgeois reactionary trade union movement tries to abolish the revolutionary essence of the May Day and make it a day of entertainment.
The USA imperialism's occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq continues with mass massacres and destructions. While the imperialist aggression via their co-operators broadens their hegemony areas in Caucasus and the Middle East, on the other hand, the imperialists are preparing for new occupations and massacres threatening Iran, Syria and the North Korea.
The neo-liberal attacks increasingly continue. Millions of workers are laid off, with new top-up fees youths are pushed towards an unknown future, social and political rights are restricted day by day.
Racism and discrimination with the support from the states is increasing in Europe. Legalising racism and discrimination together with new immigration and anti-terror laws the attacks on migrants are widespread continuing.
On the 1st of May 2005, the working class and all oppressed should fill the streets and grounds with the task of struggle against the imperialist occupation, racism and social destruction. They should not let any attempt to shadow the revolutionary essence of May Day and make it a day of amusement. Together with honoured resistance of oppressed peoples they should carry the international unity and solidarity soul to May Day against imperialist occupation and aggression.
