Postmen gave government warning of strike

Postmen and members of the union Haber-Sen affiliated to KESK , started to march to Ankara from the cities Istanbul and Amed on February 25 demanding an improvement of their working conditions. The postmen, who organised their march under the slogan "For a human life, watch out, the postman is coming", also protested the government taking the economic crisis as a pretext to privatise the Turkish post and make the postmen pay the bill for the crisis. {divide}
The postmen demanded an increase of the salaries to live a human life, no work on Saturdays, the right to unionise in which the right to strike and to collective agreements is included, more contract workers to overcome the staff shortage.
After an action in front of Sirkeci post office, Istanbul, the postmen marched to Ankara passing the cities Kocaeli, Bursa and Eskisehir. During the whole march, the postmen realised actions in different cities and distributed leaflets with their demands.
Despite the effort of the head of the Turkish Post to hinder their march, the postmen arrived in Ankara on February 27 and organised an action in front of the head office of the Turkish Post. The general president of Haber-Sen made a speech saying that the postmen will go on general strike in case their demands won't be accepted. He also emphasized that their march would be legal and legitimated and that the efforts of the head of the Turkish Post to hinder the march were all in vain. At the action the postmen shouted the slogans "Watch out, the postman is coming", "We are no slaves" and "Long live the brotherhood of the people" and carried the banner read "We are witnesses of the pain, we want peace".
