As one part of the Capital's neoliberal attacks, the privatisation attacks continue in four corners of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. The AKP government, which serves imperialism, is selling all the public enterprises of the country under the basis of demands of the Capital's international organisations such as IMF and World Bank. The AKP government and the capital are selling everything what belongs to the state and could bring revenues in dimensions never seen before; woods, houses, rest homes. A complete plunder. Probably, this shall be the "privatisation policy" of the so-called "green capital" (Muslim capital). Furthermore, this government is determined to privatise the strategically most important KITB4s (Associations of Public Economy), what no government before dared to try in this dimensions. For example PETKIM, TUPRAS, etc. The KIT enterprises, founded with the money taken from the toiling masses by taxes, are sold off to the national and foreign Capital. The government, which has announced the budget of 2004, intends to use the revenues from privatisation as important part of the budget. TEKEL (Tobacco, Alcohol, Salt Production and Transportation Enterprises), TUPRAS (Petroleum Refineries) and PETKIM (Petrol-Chemical Sector) are some of the KITs that are to be sold and hold an important portion in the government's privatisation programme. While the fixed time for offers for some of these enterprises is going to end in October, the preparations for privatisation of others such as Sumerbank, Telecom, National Lottery, Turkseker are still continuing.
The anger of the workers, who are resisting against the privatisation of their workplaces for long time, is gradually growing. The actions of the workers, those showing their anger through demonstrations, pickets, press conferences and occupation of workplaces, are also participated and supported by their families.
While the resistance and actions of the workers in TEKEL factories increase, the anger of the workers started not only to target the government, but also the trade union patrons. Workers, who are organised in the Trade Union Tek Gida-Is, registered to the Turk-Is , have cut their relations with the trade union after they saw that the trade union has got no determined line in the struggle to repulse the privatisation attacks, and they are searching for other methods of struggle. The workers, do not want to tolerate the delaying tactics and waiting attitude of the union, and are taking the way of common struggle. On 16 October, by raiding the Centre Building of their trade union Tek Gida-Is, the workers of the Cevizli TEKEL factory have warned the trade union management to organise common struggle with other unions against the privatisations.
The workers, who increased their protests in front of the buildings of ruling party AKP, organised another demo in front of the AKP's Istanbul building on 21 October. The trade union patrons, those who chose to surrender instead of resistance to police barricades, have got a trashing from the workers at the demo, also supported by the workers from Sumerbank. The workers of the Cevizli TEKEL factory were prevented from participating in the action. On their way from the Anatolian side of Istanbul to the demonstration, they were stopped at the 2nd Bosporus Bridge by the police. The trade union management have tried to persuade the workers, who waited long time at the entrance of the bridge and insisted to participate in the action, to return to their factories, but they received anger of the workers. The unionists ignored the warnings of the workers and were beaten by the workers and than run away. During the action, the workers have shouted slogans such as "the workers united will not be defeated", "general strike, general resistance", "Sumerbank, TEKEL shoulder to shoulder", "down with the union patrons", "unity, struggle, victory".
As it happened in the Sumerbank and Seydisehir Aluminium enterprise, the workers from different sectors, those who saw in the incapability of the union managements up to know that they do not have a class attitude and cannot stop the privatisation attacks with their bourgeois capitulating ideological approaches and practices, are taking united steps and actions against the privatisation attacks. MLCP is supporting the demands of the workers "let us defend our jobs".
MLCP will continue to carry consciousness to the workers that they on one hand overcome the union bureaucracy of the trade union patrons and organize themselves with their class perspective, and that they have to unite the single and local actions with the perspective of general strike, general resistance on the other hand in order to repulse the privatisation, outsourcing, fires from work and disorganisation attacks of the bourgeoisie. For the full liberation of the working class, this struggle is conducted and will be conducted under the perspective of destruction of the capitalism and establishment of socialism.
