The OSS exam, which hinders 100,000 of young students every year to study at university, was protested in different cities of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. Young students went on the streets in Istanbul and Izmir, but also in Adana, Mersin, Kocaeli, Dersim and Antalya and demanded democratic and scientific education in everyone's mother tongue and for free.{divide}
In Istanbul 1,500 high school students gathered for a rally on June 7 and said "Abolish OSS, so that there's time for life"- The students marched until Kadikoy Iskele Square emphasizing that the educations system must change. The rally organised by different youth organisations, among them
YDG, LOB and Dev-Lis, slogans were shouted such as "Education is a right and can't be sold" and "In defiance of OSS, long lives life". In a statement made in the name of the youth, it was pointed out that OSS is an unfair exam and that instead of this exam, students should have the right to an education based on their talents.
In Mersin, a march was organised on June 5 joined by 250 young students saying "OSS must be abolished; there should be time for life". In a statement made after the march, it was said that the economic crisis causes a lot of difficulties for the workers, labourers and youth and that the OSS exam has a negative effect on the young students and families.
Young students in Dersim, Kurdistan, went on the streets, too, demanding education in their mother tongue and polytechnic education. The students declared that is their democratic right to have education for free and emphasized that this education system full with exams must be changed.
