The struggle the people of Iran displayed on the streets within June after the elections had taken place has been defended by different unions and progressive organisations in Turkey, too. On June 29, the activists of the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed gathered in front of the Iranian Consulate in Istanbul and showed their solidarity with the Iranian people by opening a banner read "We salute the Iranian people's struggle for freedom". During the action, the activists shouted slogans such as "Long live the international solidarity" and held many different posters saying f.ex. "The Iranian people are showing the way to march to the peoples of the Middle East". Despite the police' barricades in front of the consulate, the ESP made a statement saying that the people of Iran are struggling for freedom on the streets against the Mullah Regime with the same determination as 30 years ago when fighting on the streets against the Shah Regime. It was also said that this struggle has gone beyond the discussions on the elections, and it was stressed that the people of Iran are at the same time fighting for all peoples of the Middle East, too.
