The family and friends of soldier Serhat Yildiz who was serving in Antep and lost his life on February 19 in an unexposed way struggle to clarify the reason of his death.
Serhat Yildiz who lived in the quarter Gulsuyu, of the labourer people's boroughs of Istanbul, was known for his progressive and democratic identity and participated in the ESP 's political work. {divide}
When the family was first told that Serhat Yildiz died in an "accident" and then "had committed suicide", his family and friends started to search the real reason of Yildiz' death. Yildiz' father had said: "As I promised my son at his grave, I won't cry, not even one tear, until I find the real reason of his death. Shortly later, a hospital report made clear that Yildiz was shot in his back with a G-3 weapon and so, the claim that he had committed suicide couldn't be taken serious anymore.
The ESP made an action on March 26 at Galatasaray Square, Istanbul, demanding the investigation of suspicious soldiers' deaths and the conviction of those responsible. In the statement it was said that according to official figures, 37 soldiers had died in a suspicious way in the first ten months of 2009. It was mentioned that Yildiz is one of the victims of the dirty and unjust wars against the Kurdish people and stressed that he was a socialist. The ESP activists demanded the hearing of the army officers that were on duty at the Gendarmerie Village Station Hayrat at Gazi antep where Yildiz was serving. At the action, the mass shouted the slogan "Don't go to the army; don't make your brother's blood flow". The ESP called on the families to continue the struggle for justice and the conviction of the murderers as well as to stand up against the dirty war.
