On August 23, the gendarmerie launched a night-raid at 2:00a.m. against the Yayla village in Gerze/Sinop to open the way for the teams of Anadolu Grup, the company that will build a thermal power plant in this district. As a result of the juridical struggle of the villagers, the construction of the plant was temporarily stopped by the courts. The company tries to continue construction despite this decision. Due to this, the villagers have been holding hold vigils for some period.{divide} Beside the night-raid against the village, the police cut the roads between Sinop centre and Gerze district to hinder the people of these regions from coming to the construction zone. Hundreds of people from Gerze protested this attempt. Gerze people resisted the police and reached the village at 4:00a.m. and stopped the construction machines. The conflicts continued until the morning. The gendarmerie and the company left the village at 10:00 a.m. The villagers turned back to their vigils and expressed that their resistance will continue and the nature and their labour will win.
