Initiative Mothers for Peace started human shield actions on August 19 against the air bombing of the Turkish state on Media Defence Zones and against the military operations in Northern Kurdistan. Hundreds of people from Hakkari (Colemerg), Sirnak and other cities are participating in the actions. Provincial leaders of the BDP from different cities and some of the MPs from BDP are among the human shields. {divide}
The human shields took their place on the zero point of the border between Turkey and Irak Federal Kurdistan Region. This region is called as the "devil's triangle" since it is the borderline between Iraq, Turkey and Iran.
Human shields continue their actions on the border on the 6th day. Everyday a different group cooks for iftar and sahur (Ramadan meals) for the Peace Mothers, they watch the developments in the region from Roj TV in the evenings, youth organises marches and actions with torches every day and seminars and podium discussions are organised throughout the day.
The action of the human shields has hindered or delayed the shipment of soldiers and military materials for some hours in many cases so far.
