The action of the human shields started by the Peace Mothers on August 19 and later joined by thousands of people responding the call of DTK were attacked by the colonialist fascist regime on August 27. During the attack of the police and the gendarmerie against the human shields waiting at the border of Northern Kurdistan with Southern Kurdistan (officially Iraq) in Cukurca/Hakkari, Yildirim Ayhan, one of the provincial leaders of BDP in Wan, and a small child was seriously injured because of gas bombs directly hitting their breast. Yildirim Ayhan lost his life on the way to the hospital. Thus the AKP government added another example to the list of its war crimes and civilian massacres.{divide}
20 thousand Kurdish people joined the funeral of Ayhan on August 29. Leaders of DTK and leaders and MPs from BDP also participated in the funeral, too, together with the Kurdish patriots carrying a banner read "Our martyr of the human shields is immortal!"
The state attacked on the mass with tear gas and pressured water once again during the burial of Ayhan. It has been reported that a fire broke out in the cemetery due to gas bombs thrown by the police. Many people were injured and some fainted away.
