10 thousand demonstrated against antimissile shield in Kurecik

On October 2, more than 10 thousand people of all ages coming from different parts of the country joined the demonstration against the planned NATO antimissile shield in Kurecik-Malatya. This was the first big action there since the one 30 years ago carried out by the leaders of the People´s Liberation Army of Turkey against the military base at that time, where the antimissile shield shall be established today.{divide}
More than 10 thousand people marched in the same anti-imperialist tradition towards the base carrying banners like "imperialists, collaborators, do not forget the 6th fleet", "We do not want an antimissile shield in Kurecik" and "We did not forget and won´t forget" with the pictures of Sinan Cemgil, Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, Deniz Gezmis, Mahir Cayan and Mazlum Dogan. The population of Kurecik supported by many people from other cities including farmers with their tractors said "We will not be a shield for the USA and Israel" and called out to the Prime Minister Erdogan saying "set up the antimissile shield in the garden of your villa!" During the demonstration, where the chairman and woman of ESP , ODP , a deputy from the Labour, Democracy and Freedom Block and others hold speeches, slogans were shouted frequently like "Do not set up the shield for nothing, we will tear down it anyway!", "Murder USA, collaborator AKP " and "Murder USA, get out of the Middle East".
In Maltepe-Istanbul, the local ESP organisation organised an action on the same day in order to support the people of Kurecik in their protest against the antimissile shield. They gathered at the Bescesmeler Square in Maltepe-Istanbul, shouted similar slogans like the masses in Kurecik and called the people with speeches throughout the whole march to struggle against imperialism.
Also in Europe, protests are growing against the planned NATO antimissile shield in Kurdistan. Following the call of AvEG-KON, migrants gathered in front of the NATO Headquarters in Heidelberg protesting against the antimissile shield.
