13 revolutionary, democrat and Kurdish patriotic people, among them Vice-president of ESP Cicek Otlu, correspondent of the news agency ETHA Cagdas Kucukbattal, member of the provincial executive board of ESP and the provincial coordination council of the HDK Erdal Demirhan, member of the Party Council of SP Yigit Yirmibes and members and activists of ESP and B DSP , who were arrested on April 10, have been taken to the court on April 13 and 14.{divide} The pretext of the arrest was participation at Newroz celebrations; however, the interrogations were concentrated on HDK. The fact that almost all of the arrested people are not from the Kurdish patriotic party BDP but from different revolutionary and progressive organisations of the West and of HDK showed that the main target of the operation was the HDK, which represents the unity of struggle of the Kurdish people and Turkish workers and labourers.
Many protest actions were organised after the arrest and during the trial by the Initiative "Millions Want Justice", HDK, ESP, BDSP , DHF and other democratic and revolutionary organisations.
The prosecutor and the court set 6 of the arrested free, including journalist Cagdas Kucukbattal, and sent 7 of them, including Cicek Otlu and Yigit Yirmibes, behind bars.
HDK organised an action at the Galatasaray Square in Istanbul on April 14 to protest the imprisonments. Actions against the imprisonments will continue.
