The prisoners announced their decision with a statement made by the prisoner Deniz Kaya on behalf of the prisoners in hunger strike. In the statement, the following was expressed "We are ending our hunger strike action for now on April 20, 2012 due to the sensitiveness of the public opinion in Kurdistan, Turkey as well as in Europe, our Leader's call for avoiding any death in the process of resistance and the call made by our movement. We promise that we will not allow the hopes for freedom of our people to die down. We will do whatever, but really whatever will be necessary for that. If death comes along for this sake, we will also not hesitate to say "welcome" to death."
The statement by prisoners continued calling on the Turkish state and the AKP government to "end its racist attacks and policy of denial, to respect the will and mother language of the Kurdish people and to remove the isolation imposed on their leader Ocalan" and stated that in case the government will not stop the oppression and barbarity, they will respond with even more rigorous actions.
