The AKP government is continuing to demolish the houses of labouring people under the escort of militarism and panzers. And the people of labouring neighbourhoods are resisting, struggling against the shanty-house demolitions, corruption and gangsters in the support and leadership of, at first, MLCP and other revolutionary forces.

Istanbul - Kurtkoy

In the morning of 14 July, thousands of soldiers surrounded the KurtkF6y neighbourhood almost like a civil war scene and method of psychological war for house demolitions. The labouring people and the youth waiting in the barricades have resisted against the panzers, guns and tear gasses with stones, sticks, slingshots, petrol bombs and gas cylinders. At the end of the clash that lasted many hours, 44 houses were demolished, many labourers injured and 15 people injured. One military panzer was damaged. The gendarmerie that invaded the streets of the neighbourhood one by one has come across with resistance in every street.

The Day after MLCP forces gave support to the KurtkF6y resistance by blocking roads in Istanbul-Bagcilar with petrol bombs and opened banner writing "Demolition in KurtkF6y, Resistance in everywhere". And the militias of MLCP-CYO (Communist Youth Organisation) destroyed the KurtkF6y Branch of Is-Bank with petrol bombs.

In the actions organised by ESP , the Istanbul E-6 and E-5 motorways were closed to traffic by petrol bombs, and fascist regime was protested with slogans such as "the people of KurtkF6y are not alone", "One fist and one barricade against demolitions".

Istanbul- Okmeydani

In the scope of AKP's " Urban Transformation Project ", it is being planed to demolish about 85 thousand labouring houses. The lands -where these houses are built on- are being impounded and awarded to the gangs of annuity. Istanbul-Okmeydani is the first of these places.

On 21st of July, the police demolished dozens of houses. There occurred tough tensions which later tuned to a conflict. The people in neighbourhood, who -following the demolition of dismantled houses- shouted slogans such as "the USA puppet Tayyip (they intend the Turkish Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan)" and clashed with the police by using stones and bricks.

After the clash, the people -who were then taken out of the encircled demolition area- started to march by shouting slogans: "Shoulder to shoulder against demolitions", "People to ask account"

The residents -who before were in a dispersed situation and did not know what to do- start showing reactions with an objective by the intervention of ESP members. The police again begun targeting ESP members by saying "there are terrorists among you" and tried to detain them. The people defended Sakine Altun, an ESP activist, and took her back from hands of the police.

A worker, whose house were demolished, has shown her anger by saying "Tayyip, do not demolish our houses, otherwise you will also be pulled down. It was us who made you crown on our heads and it will be us who will knock you down". Another worker said to the police "It was us who protected you from beatings on May Days, but now you are throwing gas bombs on us. We should kiss and congratulate the people in Gazi (a neighbourhood in Istanbul known for resistance) because of not letting you to enter in their neighbourhoods".

Istanbul - Guzeltepe,

On 22nd of July, the police attacked the people who were waiting in barricades built against the demolition in GFCzeltepe neighbourhood. People have clashed with the police. Hundreds of police have surrounded the neighbourhood with panzers and bulldozers. The police attack was responded with slogans such as "Our housing right cannot be blocked", "GFCzeltepe is going to be a grave to fascism".

ESP and the People's Cultural Centre have also participated in the resistance of people in GFCzeltepe. And, here also, the police targeted communists of ESP by saying "there are members of a terrorist organisation among you, take them out" on the megaphones.

The police, who witnessed the commitment of the people, attacked with panzers and gas bombs, and the people resist them at the barricades by using stones, petrol bombs and glass bottles. One police panzer caught fire. The resisters, who put fire on the first barricades, continued to fight with the fascist forces in the second barricades formed inside the neighbourhood. The correspondent of Atilim newspaper, HFCsniye Seckin, was tried to be detained, but she was later released due to anger that was shown. Anti-demolition forces closed the O-2 motorway to the traffic for about 20 minutes and demanded the police to leave the neighbourhood.

Istanbul - 1 Mayis Neighbourhood

The state sponsored degeneration and rotting attacks in the labouring neighbourhoods, where the class, national and religious contradictions -so where the explosive elements are accumulated and concentrated- are carried out with the support and protection of the police. These attacks, however, are waged under the forms of gambling clubs, bars, and the generalisation of drug addiction, prostitution, gangsters and annuity mafia.

1 Mayis (May Day) is one of these neighbourhoods. On 12 July, the members of ESP and the Make 1 Mayis Beautiful Association were attacked with sticks and stones by a group of gangs while on action against the degeneration and rotting attempts. As a result of the attack, ESP activist A. Haydar Saygili and 3 Association members were injured with gunshots. ESP activists have organised people to take to the street by setting up barricades in three different points. The action, which was also supported by other revolutionary organisations, was attended by about 250 people and ended at 1:30 am after putting fire the barricades.

On 13th of July, the people of 1 Mayis neighbourhood have organised a massive demonstration with the slogan: "Gangsters are controlled by the state". The workers left their workplaces and tradesmen shut down their shops. More than 1500 people have shown their anger by organising a protest action for about an hour in 1 Mayis neighbourhood.

When we look deep into the actions and resistances, which developed against the state attacks, we can say that it is possible to reach leadership level only if we act on the grounds of bringing together the masses in meetings, taking decisions together with them, forming a common will, giving trust to people with our theory and practise, and of responding to the real demands and needs of the people.

MLCP took part in these resistances and struggles actively and as an organiser. Under the new wave of offence in Turkey, it is going to be inevitable to have tough clash of wills in labouring neighbourhoods. Because the representative of fascist regime, Tayyip Erdogan, fears from the anger and actions of the labourers -those accumulated within the ghettos of Istanbul- on the poverty, unemployment and house demolitions. Because he fears from a revolutionary mass movement that could be developed against the "annihilation and suppression" move directed at the Kurdish national struggle.
