The city of Kobane has been under siege and attack by the IS (Islamic State) forces since 15 September. The IS forces are attacking Kobane with tanks and artilleries that they have seized in Mosul from Iraqi army and in Heseke from Syrian regiments, and with NATO and Russian missiles.

Kobane is the city which started the Rojava revolution in Northern Syria. Far from Efrin and Cezire, it is the canton in the centre. IS is willing to take the revenge of Rojava revolution and defeat it by capturing Kobane with heavy weapons.

YPG (People’s Defence Forces) had succeeded to repulse the attacks by IS on Rojava autonomous region since the beginning of March, and recaptured the villages occupied by IS. On the contrary of its announcements, the IS did not march towards Baghdad, but on the Yezidi Kurds in Shengal, Maxmur refugee camp and Rojava following their capture of Mosul, and by taking the advantage of heavy weapons that they have seized in Mosul. IS forces at first attacked to the Cezaa which is on the security corridor extending from Shengal to South Kurdistan, but they were defeated due to heroic resistance of YPG.

Kobane did not had chance to get armament because of IS military bases in Arab settlements in between Kobane and other cantons. IS forces attacked to the Kobane autonomous region with this advantage. YPG forces pulled back the civilians from surrounded villages in order to save them from attacks by heavy weapons. They had to pull back into the Kobane city due to massive inequality of arms.

The IS forces, which attacked from east-west and south within Syria, was also aided by Turkish state on the north by being provided weapons, ammunition and allowing flow of militants.

By resisting heroically for 20 days now, the YPG forces are dealing heavy blows to the IS forces. Through actions of sacrifice, the men and women fighters are dealing heavier blows. They are implementing the tactics of war aiming not to let them get into Kobane city, and to destroy them if they do so. The people liken the YPG resistance to Stalingrad and Leningrad resistances. The revolutionary and progressive forces in the region share the same view.

In fact, the Kobane resistance really is a resistance which will determine the faith of Rojava revolution, and it is the Stalingrad of our Kurdish people. The revolutionaries are going to fight until their last fighter to prevent barbaric IS mobs from taking Kobane. They will put in a grave in Kobane the IS forces.

Ankara wants to crush Rojava revolution through IS and war

When the reactionary Syrian civil war begun, Ankara wanted to crush Kurds by occupying the north saying “Syria is our internal matter”. It counted the Rojava revolution and its leadership as a reason for war. When the international contradiction did not allow that, it then conducted a corrosive war not only against Assad but also against Kurds. At first it led Free Syrian Army and pro-Al Caida Al Nusra mobs and later the IS mobs to attack Kurds and Rojava revolution.

It has provided access from borders to the IS militants for the siege of Kobane since 15 September. It carried military equipment with trains to them. It sent members of counter-guerrilla that it had used during dirty-war to help IS. It has attacked to the people who gathered at the border to support people in Kobane and let IS mobs easily enter into Kobane from the north by clearing out two villages.

During talks with the leader of Rojava autonomous region, Salih Muslim, it has refused the demand for “transportation of weapons to Kobane through Turkey” by imposing 3 conditions. These conditions were a) Rojava must abandon the autonomy b) PYD (Democratic Union Party-vanguard of the Rojava revolution) to cut its relations with PKK c) PYD-YPG must fight against Assad regime by joining in the oppositional front in Syria. By insisting these, Ankara prevented the transportation of weapons to Kobane.

At the same time, Ankara has followed zigzag politics on the imperialists forces decision to attack IS on the air. President Erdogan has agreed with the NATO-member states’ decision to form an alliance at the NATO summit in Wales. Then it stood hesitant to the decision taken from a meeting in Saudi Arabia of regional Sunni states under the leadership of USA. When Erdogan’s ear was pulled in USA, Ankara joined in the decision to fight IS by changing its previous position. But now, it is putting forward the conditions of establishing “buffer zone/no fly zone-secure zone” by Erdogan and “also to aim fall of Assad during war with IS” by Prime Minister Davutoglu. Erdogan start looking for new ways to send ground troops to Rojava when his claim during enthusiastic talk in Gazi antep on “Kabane is falling” did not realised. He does not give up from imperial expansionism.

Erdogan and his party, which approved the war bill in the parliament on 2 October, took briefing from General Staff of Military. At the briefing, the General Staff put forward a plan consists of occupation of Rojava autonomous region with 3 brigades of soldiers and “secure zone/no fly zone” to get protection from Syrian regime’s air strikes. Erdogan and his tyro Prime Minister Davutoglu now try to convince the people on it.

The people in Northern Kurdistan have raised general resistance in the cities and towns against Ankara’s game to crush Rojava revolution with IS and war. Hundred thousands of people took to the streets in the main Northern Kurdistan cities such as Amed (Diyarbakir). The AKP dictatorship tries to break the struggle by announcing curfews in Amed, Van and other Kurdish cities, increased police terror and armed attacks carried out by the Hizbullah (Islamist counter-guerrilla organisation) which killed at least 10 Kurdish patriots (until 8 October) and wounding dozens. There are Marxist Leninist Communists among the people who have been heavily injured.

And in cities of Turkey, all the democratic forces and Kurdish national liberation movement organised united actions in order to support the revolutionary resistance in Kobane Autonomous region. Here too, the AKP tries to break the struggle by using fascist MHP forces’ lynching attacks and police chemical gas. However, the progressive and revolutionary forces continue with the resistance by not yielding to the aggression. The progressive Confederation of Public Service Workers’ Unions is joining in the struggle by organising two days of strike action on 8-9 October.

In European countries, the revolutionary and democratic forces, particularly the Kurdish democratic movement and the Marxist Leninist Communists are continuing with their widespread solidarity actions for Kobane resistance.

USA tries the direct war on Syria under pretext of IS

The decision of imperialist and regional reactionary states under the leadership of USA to fight with IS is in fact using the IS as pretext. Their aim is to enter Syria through direct war. The USA and French imperialists have until now organised air strikes against IS forces mainly in Iraq and some ineffective ones in Syria. They are following the tactic to wait for IS to deal heavy blows on the forces of Rojava revolution in Kobane, then to attack directly to Syria in the role of saving the region from IS. As a matter of fact Psaki, the speaker of General Secretary of USA imperialism, have expressed the truth when saying “our priority is not Kobane”. They try to legitimise their planned direct war by using the barbarism of IS. And later they will discuss about the ground war which will be joined by the armies of their collaborator reactionary states. Ankara already willingly suggests a ground war by insisting its own conditions. The aforementioned conditions firstly cover the occupation of the north of Syria in order to crush the Rojava revolution, and the toppling down of Assad regime. It also covers the rearmament of reactionary oppositional armed forces to drive them into the war.

While all these bloody plans of imperialist and regional reactionary states continue, Kobane revolutionary forces and YPG, which includes our Party MLCP, also go on with their epical resistance against IS that is armed with tanks, artilleries and missiles. For 23 days now, YPG proves that it will not be defeated by IS in spite of all inequality of weapons by giving hundreds of martyrs (our Party has also lost one of its fighters in Kobane).

The Kobane resistance is a resistance which will determine the fate of Rojava revolution against the regional reactionary states, particularly colonialist Ankara, and imperialists those who want to choke the revolution with IS. It is the milestone for the regional revolution.

All progressive and revolutionary forces of the world must support the Kobane resistance through internationalist solidarity.
