In the last month, Turkey and Northern Kurdistan represented a place of intense actions. Whilst the neo-liberal regulations and the concentration of attacks towards the democratic rights formed the centre of reaction from the working class and the oppressed, the actions aiming to bring to justice the perpetrators of provocation that was organised by the counter-forces of the state in the Semdinli town of Northern Kurdistan have continued. In its 5th anniversary, the 19th December massacre in prisons has also being made as the subject of many actions from peaceful demonstrations and meetings to bombing and illegal demonstrations with guns. After a continuing provocation, lynching attempts, detentions and imprisonment terror, another incident of rape under police custody has also been putted into the state's criminal record. Sevda Aydin, an activist in a revolutionary culture and art institution, was raped while being in police custody. Attacks against the Kurdish people have also continued in various forms including police raids on newspapers and fire-raising of party buildings. Orhan Pamuk, an internationally known writer, has become the target of civil fascists' provocation in the court where he was tried because of his statement in a Swiss magazine: "About 30 thousand Kurds and one million of Armenians are killed in Turkey". Even only this case and the attack show how the freedom of speech is under a great threat and danger in Turkey.

In the last month of 2005, the labourers of Turkey and N. Kurdistan have increased the struggle in the above frameworks.

"We will defeat the isolation terror!"

On 19 December 2000 , there took place a military operation in 20 different prisons at a same time. Despite the long lasting resistances of the revolutionary prisoners, they were taken to the newly constructed F-Type isolation prisons. During their brave fight against the transfers, 28 revolutionaries were killed; tens of them were wounded due to the bullets, gas bombs and chemical weapons. However, the isolation in F-Type prisons is still continuing today.

While the anniversary of the 19 December massacre witnessed to the actions and protests of many revolutionary and democratic groups, the Socialist Platform of Oppressed ( ESP ) has organised a campaign against the isolation in prisons. The activists of ESP, who emphasised that the killers of 19 December are today working in Semdinli, said "the winner will be the uprising in Semdinli and the life in the prison cells" by combining their campaign against the isolation with the call to bring perpetrators to account in Semdinli provocation.

Throughout the campaign, which was started in November, leaflets explaining the aim of the isolation attack in prisons were distributed, the labourers were enlightened through agitations in the neighbourhoods and streets, and panels were organised. The ESP activists, who called upon workers and labourers to stand against the isolation with many actions from road blockings to hanging banners on bridges, have also organised many press meetings and pickets together with other revolutionary groups in many cities during the week of 19 December.

On the other hand, MLCP has organised revolutionary violence actions where the responsible of 19 December massacre were asked account. MLCP, which organised illegal demonstrations with guns and petrol bombs in some of the labourer neighbourhoods of Istanbul on 19 December, has also organised an illegal demonstration with petrol bombs in the Taksim Square of Istanbul that is banned for 30 years. The militants hanged the banner writing "We will defeat the isolation terror" on the flag-post in the square. MLCP stated this action, at the same time, was a response to the banning of the Taksim Square for the labourers' actions, and the account of 19 December will be rendered. They also said "we definitely will put on the bastions of fascism the flag of socialism". Again, the MLCP militias have carried the fire of Parisian migrant to Istanbul by burning the luxury cars in the bourgeoisie boroughs on 21 and 22 December. In the statement MLCP said: "On 19 December 2000, 28 revolutionary prisoners become martyred with a magnificent resistance during attacks on 20 different prisons. We did not forget the ones who planed and carried out the massacre and we will continue to render account. The fascist dictatorship, which was able to open F-Type prisons by the massacre of 19 December, continues with the isolation and repression terror in these prisons. Revolutionary prisoners are continuing to increase the hope by tearing down the massacres in prisons and the heavy conditions of isolation as a tatter. The flag of struggle for revolution is being taken to higher levels both inside and outside the prisons."

The people of Semdinli are not alone!

At 9 November 2005, the counter-forces of the state were caught by the Kurdish people when they were carrying out a bombing in the Semdinli town of N. Kurdistan. Thereafter, the labourers in, at fist, N. Kurdistan and Turkey entered into a process of intense actions in order to render Semdinli's account and to obtain the enlightening of counter-guerrilla killings. While the Kurdish people in N. Kurdistan responded the provocation in Semdinli with uprising, the labourer neighbourhood were enlightened by actions with torches. In these actions, the demands on bringing the perpetrators of Semdinli incident to justice and dissolving of JITEM (Intelligence and Counter-Terror Bureau of Gendarmery), of which the offenders are affiliated with, and the other counter-guerrilla organisations came to the fore. Delegations, involving the revolutionary organisations, including ESP, the democratic mass organisations and the intellectuals, have made investigation by going to Semdinli and carried the Kurdish people's demand for freedom and brotherhood to the workers and labourers of Turkey.

In the framework of the protests against the incident in Semdinli, the visits of CIA, FBI and NATO chiefs to Turkey and Yasar Buyukanit's, a Turkish general, visit to US have become the target of the workers' and labourers' anger.

Another side of the struggle that came to the fore in the axes of Semdinli was the development of retaliatory actions and revolutionary violence in the west. MLCP has carried out bombings and actions with petrol bombs on the buildings of fascist MHP (Nationalist Action Party), one of the forces that come to the fore in the counter-actions. And in N. Kurdistan, the police buildings become the target of MLCP's revolutionary violence. In its statements, MLCP, which rendered account from these forces that are among the responsible for the 19 December massacre, said "We are not going to let go the fascist centres those flaming enmity among the peoples".

The rapist state will be brought to justice!

On 12 December, Sevda Aydin, a worker of Ekin Art Centre (a revolutionary culture and art institution), kidnapped and raped by the police. In the frames of its recent concept of attack, the state has showed that it will increasingly continue to use the methods of dirty war by adding rape under police custody to its provocation in Semdinli, the terror of detention and imprisonment, the attacks and lynching attempts on the revolutionary and patriotic forces.

Following these attacks, many democratic women's organisations, including the activists of Ekin Art Centre and the EKB (Toiling Women's Union), have raised the slogan "the rapist state will be brought to justice" in their solidarity actions with Sevda Aydin in different cities of Turkey and N. Kurdistan, at first in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.

Rape under police custody was a method of torture frequently applied by the fascist dictatorship. In 1998, following the EKB's campaign and conference against the sexual abuse and rape under police custody, the rapist face of the state was shown and this attack was repulsed on some levels.

Labourers met in Ankara against neo-liberal attacks

On 17 December, about 50 thousand labourers from different cities of Turkey and N. Kurdistan have met in Ankara in a demonstration organised by trade unions and labour organisations against the 2006 budget that imposed by IMF and the neo-liberal attacks of which some of them are still a draft and some of them are already putted in force.

The struggle against neo-liberal attacks has combined with the struggle against the state's fascist aggression in the axes of Semdinli incident during the demonstration that was also participated by ESP activists, who -before the demonstration- distributed leaflets saying "The great Ankara demonstration must be a place where the workers and labourers would ask account from the capital and the AKP government by a united popular resistance. Everyone should do their duties!" and called upon the workers and toilers to show their strength.
