In Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, 1st of May, the unity, solidarity and struggling day of the working class this year brought forward the slogan of "unity of workers, brotherhood of peoples". Despite the state efforts to terrorize the 1st of May, ten thousands of people took to the streets in the spirit of "unity, solidarity and struggle". During the 1st of May celebrations organised in more than 40 cities and towns such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Diyarbakir, Malatya, Antep, Van, Antakya, Balikesir, Canakkale, Adana, Bursa, Mersin, Hopa, Findikli, Trabzon, Samsun, Usak, Denizli, Kayseri, Erzincan, Sivas, and etc. the workers, labourers, youth and women have also raised protests against the new Anti-Terror Law and the General Health Insurance.

Through an intensive mass work that it has conducted from district to district, factory to factory, house to house, Marxist Leninist Communist Party called on workers and labourers to take streets for a united, massive and militant 1st of May. MLCP militants, who invited workers to the streets by touching on the social issues such as the new Anti-Terror Law (TMY), General Health Insurance (GSS) and the fight against chauvinism, organised an armed-agitation work in the Gazi Neighbourhood of Istanbul and put up a banner -with bomb- in Diyarbakir writing: "To the 1st of May for equality, freedom and justice / MLCP Kurdistan". The Communist Youth Organisation ( KGO ) closed the traffic in Istanbul-Umraniye with petrol bombs and put up banner writing: "to the KGO ranks on 1st of May".

The Kurdish patriotic forces' search to unite, bring their national demands close to the demands of Turkish workers and labourers were positive in comparison to previous years. The marching of the revolutionary organisations and parties of Turkey together with Kurds against the wave of terror that state applies, at first, upon the Kurdish people has represented another achievement of the 1st May.

Nearly 50 thousand workers and labourers participated in the demonstration organised in Kadikoy Square of Istanbul. ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed), DTP (Democratic Society Party), EMEP (Party of Labour) and SDP (Socialist Democracy Party) marched behind joint banner writing: "Shoulder to Shoulder for the liberation of labour and freedom of peoples". ESP, who took its place in the demo with 2 thousand of its red masses, carried banners saying "Long Live Proletarian Internationalism, Long Live Socialism", "Long Live Peoples' Brotherhood" and etc. ESP became the centre of attractions through its enthusiasm and visibility. Federation of Socialist Youth Association ( SGD F) came to the demonstration after making calls for boycott at schools in the morning. The youth have carried their enthusiasm to the celebrations in many cities. SGDF members carried banners writing: "Socialism will come, the future is socialism", "Do not numb your imagination, defend your future". MLCP and KGO forces have also become the centre of attraction through their banners. "Workers to the Party, to the MLCP", "Party, Surge, Victory", "Long Live Our Party, MLCP" slogans were shouted.

The other revolutionary organisations joined in the 1st of May demonstration behind the banner of "Revolutionary 1st of May Platform". Rights and Freedoms Front was the force who come forefront of this contingent with its visibility and mass participation. Limter-Is (Shipyard workers union) called upon workers to leave their work and participate in the demonstrations by organising 1st of May celebration in the shipyards in early hours of morning. By the call of Limter-Is the subcontracting workers of Ceksan, Sedef, Ursa and RMK took their place in the ranks of Limter- Is cortege.

In Izmir, the 1st May celebrations are organised in the Gundogdu Square. ESP contingent with about 400 people carried banners: "1st May should be announced as an official holiday", "Against Imperialism, Colonialism and Chauvinism - Long Live Peoples' Brotherhood". Socialist Youth Association entered the square with a banner writing "Resistance, Revolt and Uprising from France to Amed". ESP, HOC and Partizan forces have shown the good example of Kurdish-Turkish brotherhood by resisting to the police attack against the Kurds' contingent. In the square, MLCP and KGO banners were opened. MLCP militants called on labourers to get organised among MLCP ranks. MLCP is applauded by labourers.

In Ankara, the workers and labourers celebrated the 1st of May in Tandogan Square. In the demonstration where ten thousands of labourers called for equality and brotherhood, ESP also took part with its joyful contingent that was formed by 350 people. Youth from SGDF carried the posters of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and Che. Some young people who were watching the demonstration joined the SGDF contingent which was also attended by high school students. And the Labourer Women's Association took their place in the demonstration with following banners: "End the Sexual, National and Class Exploitation", "Women! Freedom is in the Organised Force".

In Adana, MLCP flags and KGO banners were opened. "Long Live Our Party, MLCP" slogan of MLCP people is applauded by labourers. In Mersin, the police attacked the workers and labourers. The attack was responded with slogans and a sitting action.

In Diyarbakir, the 1st of May is celebrated despite of another state banning. When entering to the meeting point with a banner writing "Long Live 1st of May", ESP is applauded by the masses together with slogans "Long Live Peoples' Brotherhood". Despite the low participation of trade unions in the demonstration, without banners and flags, ESP drew attentions with its banners, slogans and placards.

MLCP forces took to the streets also in Europe, together with their banners writing: "To the 1st of May Against the Imperialist Occupation, Social Destruction and Anti-Terror Laws". Thousands of MLCP sympathizers who celebrated the 1st May in Germany, France, Britain, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Austria and Greece came to the forefront with their mass participation, visibility and enthusiasm.
