The hearings against 18 activists of ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed) -who were arrested on 21 September and 9 November as a result of the state terror that started in September against our party and revolutionary socialist associations and still continues - took place on 22 and 23 February at the Heavy Penal Court of Diyarbakir.
At the hearing on 22 February, 4 of the 9 ESP activists were released. And the result of the hearing on 23 February where 9 other ESP activists who were imprisoned on 9 November were being judged was the release of 4 more activists. 10 ESP activists were sent back to prison and the date of the second hearing was fixed as 22 March.
Socialist associations considered the hearings as an important axis of the struggle for putting these attacks in vain and they prepared for the hearings by organising actions, carrying out different activities among the masses and giving the efforts of involving other democratic organisations in the process.
On 21 February, ESP organised simultaneous actions in Istanbul, Adana, Antep, Ankara, Malatya, Eskisehir and Bursa demanding freedom to the Amed prisoners, whereas activities among the masses were intensified especially in Kurdistan at the period before the hearings. On 22 and 23 February, while the hearings were continuing, the front garden of the court was turned into a square of action. ESP activists from the Kurdish cities such as Dersim, Sivas, Malatya, Antep and Erzurum and from Adana, Mersin and Antakya gathered massively in Amed in order to stand in solidarity with the prisoners, while a delegation of Istanbul ESP went to Amed to be present at the hearings. DTP (Party of Democratic Society), Initiative of Peace Mothers, the trade unions Yapı Yol-Sen, Tüm Bel-Sen and Eğitim-Sen, TKP (Communist Party of Turkey), the revolutionary magazine "Partizan", DHP (Platform for Democratic Rights) and HÖC (Rights and Freedoms Front) supported the ESP prisoners by gathering in front of the court. An international delegation from Germany also observed the hearing.
The hearings were another example of the unlimitedness of the Turkish colonialism fascism which even violates its own laws. The police groups from the Anti-terror Department arbitrarily hindered the representatives of different associations and delegations from entering the court and observing the hearings and one ESP activist was arrested for "wearing a hat written ‘ESP' on it". The agents from the Anti-terror Department who had personally been present at the police raids in September observed the hearings where the representatives were not able to enter.
On the other hand, two more ESP activists were arrested in Amed at the city centre on 18 February and they were sent to prison, being charged with "being affiliated to MLCP".
With the last releases, totally 20 prisoners have been released in Manisa, Mugla, Izmir, Adana, Antep and different cities. But the arrests and imprisonments continue on the other hand.
After the announcement of the dates of some of the hearings, the struggle for the freedom of the September prisoners had come to a new turning point. The hearings on 22-23 February were important for the Kurdistan part of the attacks due to the high number of the imprisoned activists and due to the fact that they would take place in Amed which is the centre of N. Kurdistan. The hearing in Istanbul where the imprisoned leaders and activists of ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed), the newspaper Atilim, EKD (Labouring Women's Association), SGD (Socialist Youth Association), the radio Ozgur and the trade unions Limter-Is and Tekstil-Sen will be judged will take place on 13 April. Together with the hearing against 23 revolutionary and communists who were imprisoned on 8-12 September -and the date of this hearing has not been fixed yet-, the hearing on 13 April stands at the centre of the legal process.
The preparations for the hearing on 13 April is carried out through a process of actions and activities, where the organisations that are exposed to the terror of imprisonment stands in the centre and the other revolutionary organisations, intellectuals and trade unions give passive or active support. The organisations which were tried to be pacified and illegitimated through imprisonments carry the perspective that the hearings can be turned into a lever in the struggle of defending the socialist positions actively, through the participation of organisations and individuals both from Turkey/N. Kurdistan and from the international area and through a massive solidarity.
Progressive, revolutionary and communist parties and organisations on the world also should organise solidarity with the 10 September prisoners through participating at the international delegations that will observe the hearing on 13 April and through actions and activities on that day in front of the Turkish embassies. This is important for raising active solidarity against the reactionary repression wave launched by the world bourgeoisie under the demagogy of "war against terrorism".
